I look forward to learning more about each of you. Each quarter, each class comes with students from many different professional experiences, thoughts about research and evidence-based practice, and other things that they would perhaps like the class to know.

As mentioned in my intro/bio, my primary work has been with children exposed to terrible traumatic situations. In 2011, I went to Bolivia with a team from Drexel - and, being the forensic clinician -I worked with judges, prosecutors, forensic psychologists and, forensic examiners to examine how to best provide targeted and sensitive forensic assessment and intervention. Below is a photo of when I was working with children in the schoolroom at the domestic violence shelter (at 13,000 feet in the Andes mountain range --- where I got to meet quite a few alpaca, and fell in love with eating quinoa!). These children and their mothers were provided safety since most of them lived in very rural areas and did not have any other resources to remain safe and learn about how to reinvest in a new life/existence without abuse.

Hello Class! My name is Angela and I live in Frederick, MD. The last research class I took was over 11 years ago during my undergraduate nursing program. While I learned a lot in that class, I remember feeling a bit overwhelmed by the entire research process. It is fair to say that I feel the same way about this class today as it has been a very long time since I utilized the concepts we will be applying this quarter. With that said, I am looking forward to learning a lot and applying that knowledge during this program and in practice. I currently work in a busy PACU that specializes in orthopedics and hand trauma. I am in the Family Nurse Practitioner track, and while I am still uncertain as to what I want to do when I finish, I am excited for the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead. Below is a picture of my family on vacation this summer. Hope everyone has a great quarter, see you in class!

Hi everyone! My name is Gabriella and I am from Ocean Township, New Jersey. I am currently working in the PICU at CHOP and I am enrolled in the Nurse Anesthesia program. I have taken a research class in my undergraduate program at Sacred Heart University. I did not know much about research at the time but seemed to become more comfortable with it as the course went on. I look forward to learning more about the research process and how to be more efficient when exploring new focuses. I hope to spend time researching relevant topics that are habitual in our nursing practice. I am very excited to learn with all of you and wish everyone the best of luck in the course! 

Currently I am employed as an ED/Trauma nurse at Christiana Hospital while being enrolled in the Nurse Anesthesia Program. I previous took a research course with both of my undergraduate degrees at West Chester University. The only concern I had while preparing for this course was most likely the same as all of my classmates. That concern was whether my undergraduate experiences had prepared me for this level of expectations. I am sure we will all be fine. My hopes for those class are twofold. First, I would like to gain experience in assessing what research is of higher quality than others. In addition, I want practice in extrapolating important clinical data that is pertinent to my career trac.

I have taken the undergraduate version of this class recently and really liked it. It led me to enroll in this class. My concerns for this course would be that the course material may be harder to grasp because it is a graduate level course. I hope to learn more about research and how it applies to evidence based practice. I am hoping to work in an ICU post graduation. I currently work in a heart and vascular ICU as a nursing assistant and I love it. I am excited to work and learn with you all.

I am currently working in Beebe Healthcare’s ICU as a medical/surgical/CV ICU nurse and I am enrolled in Drexel’s Nurse Anesthesia program. I completed a research class while obtaining my undergrad at Wilmington University. I am not sure the undergrad research class will compare to the class offered at the master’s level. I do know there is a statistics component of research and that is where I struggle. I am sure others in the class have some of the same concerns! Hopefully, we will all work together to overcome the obstacles and succeed! I am interested in learning more about research and how to proceed through the process. I do hope we research some interesting topics! I wish everyone luck in the class!!

I previously took a Research Methods course at Temple University in 1999 as part of my MEd in Kinesiology. My concerns are much the same as everyone else; I haven't looked at research from a statistical and analytical standpoint since I had hair (see photo below). I hope to gain a better understanding of what makes a study and it's results mean more than many of the misconstrued headlines that are talked about in the media.

Hi everyone – My name is Molly Pandola. I am taking this course as part of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. I’m located in Philadelphia, where I work as an OR nurse. I’ve been a nurse for 8 years. I first received my RN at Delaware County Community College, and my BSN at West Chester University. This is my first research course, and I am relieved to see I wasn’t the only student with some trepidation. My main concern is becoming accustomed to the language used to fully grasp the concepts. I hope to gain a greater understanding of research methods and data analysis to enhance both my practice and future academic studies. A few other things about myself – I am music obsessed and try to continue practicing guitar and bass, even though it often falls by the wayside with work, call, and school. I have been married for 10 years and have a wonderful dog we rescued from the SPCA. Her cute little face always acts as a stress reliever for me 

Hello everyone- My name is Erika Rider. I am taking this course as part of the FNP program. I currently located in a town just outside of Pittsburgh, Pa and work as a nurse coordinator in a busy diabetes and endocrinology clinic. I have taken research courses both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. ( I transferred in from another program but my research course was not transferable). But somehow i have completely blocked that class out of my head since I cannot remember anything from it! Although as I read the chapters, it is quite familiar. I think research in general is a scary word because it just describes more work! My biggest concerns are just the work load since I am taking another involved course with this. I would like to learn to like research and not be so afraid of it so that I can utilize those skills later in my career. Below is an older picture of my 2 dogs back when I had surgery on my ankle. I love how attentive they are :) The brown brindle recently crossed the rainbow bridge. So its full on spoil the white one :)

I attended Drexel for my undergraduate nursing degree and have been accepted to Drexel’s Nurse Anesthesia starting in 2020. I currently work in a cardiac ICU and love my patient population. As an undergraduate, I was required to take one research class and I learned about p values, and different types of research studies, but am looking forward to expanding this knowledge. I often feel reading scholarly articles for some of the other MSN classes, I am confused as to the setup and data collection strategies of certain research studies. I hope to learn about some statistics with this course, as well as other research concepts to more accurately assess the quality of the many nursing scholarly articles. I have no concerns taking this course after I have read the syllabus. The coursework is straight forward, and all projects are outlined clearly. I love to travel and hope to go on a long trip to Japan and Australia in the coming months, which would leave Antarctica as the only continent I have not been to. I’m an avid Philadelphia sports fan and spend a lot of time with my girlfriend and our adopted pit bull hiking the local Philadelphia trails.

My name is Lonttea (Lon-Tay) Howard. I currently reside in Montgomery County, PA. I have taken Research in undergrad and it was my least favorite subject. Paper writing is my angst and anxiety, other than that no major concerns I can think of. I hope to gain a different prospective of Research and how valuable it is to our patients and us as medical professionals. I started my nursing career in Med-Surg and now a Nurse in the ICU. I am grateful for the opportunity to be apart of the Critical Care Team.
