The part that made me confused was why she would have to return to school and why they didn't go to the competition. They could have made it but they didn't go, which doesn't make sense because Melody really wanted to be there. I wasn't really asking myself any questions during this book, except for that one part of the book, 93%.
93%

I connect with her on this part because I am always thinking the same things. Why didn't they call me? Why didn't they tell me about breakfast? Why can't I be like everybody else? The ways I am connecting to my reading is Melody and her day to day thoughts that are going through her head, I think the same things when I am in sort of the situations that she is going through.

When Melody says, "The next two weeks pass in a whirlwind," she's getting even more nervous for the competition and she is also very excited, but overall very nervous. I can relate to this to an extreme because every week for me in school is a whirlwind, competition or not! This especially applied to me when I was in 4th grade and I was in the spelling bee! I had to practice so much and I ended up winning my schools spelling bee and I went on to compete at the regional spelling bee, I didn't make it any farther unfortunately, but I made it farther that i thought i would have. But being in a competition is very very hard and you have to practice so much. So i can really get the whirlwind part.

I could image little Claire holding her stomach and her mouth at the dinner table, and her throwing up all over her dads new shoes. The passage describes it in such a good way it is like I was at the dinner table. Sharon Draper so welly explains it in a way as if you were there and you were Melody, sitting in her wheelchair, watching little Claire run and throw up all over her dads shoes.
78%

Out of my mind is mainly about a girl with cerebral pasley and being in her world. She is also very smart for what she has, which that put her into a big competition. Bad things happen like they usually do and things don't go as planned. But as always, life comes around makes it up. Its very much about being different, but in a good way. Melody's different makes her an unique person, and that's what makes her, her.
No specific percent, its throughout the whole book.

Melody goes from a shy little girl to a smart and sort of independent girl. Melody was this small little girl who thought her disability was a bad thing and wasn't very happy she had it. She didn't like to eat around other people, she really didn't like to be around other people who weren't comfortable with her. But by the end, she was an almost independent girl. She became more of herself around other people. She eats around them, and as I said, more herself around people. She really changed for the better I would say.
2% and the end of the book
