All staff should know what to do if a child tells them they are being abused, exploited or neglected'.

This advice outlines how to respond to an incident of nudes and semi-nudes being shared (see section 1.4 for a definition), including:

• risk assessing situations

• safeguarding and supporting children and young people

• handling devices and images

• recording incidents, including the role of other agencies

• informing parents and carers

The types of incidents which this advice covers are:

• a person under the age of 18 creates and shares nudes and semi-nudes of themselves with a peer under the age of 18

• a person under the age of 18 shares nudes and semi-nudes created by another person under the age of 18 with a peer under the age of 18

• a person under the age of 18 is in possession of nudes and semi-nudes created by another person under the age of 18

This advice does not cover:

• children and young people under the age of 18 sharing adult pornography or exchanging sexual texts which do not contain images

In response to these issues, education settings should follow their local authority’s guidance and schools and colleges should also refer to the Department for Education’s (DfE’s) Keeping children safe in education statutory safeguarding guidance.

It's Not OK reinforces the importance of building and maintaining positive relationships and recognising and responding to behaviour relating to:

• online safety

• grooming

• sexting

• harmful sexual behaviour

• child sexual abuse

• child sexual exploitation.

NSPCC Learning has published a Helplines insight briefing on young people’s experiences of online sexual extortion, or ‘sextortion’. Drawing from contacts to Childline and the NSPCC Helpline in 2023/24, the briefing explores: how sextortion occurs and how it can escalate; the impact on young people’s mental wellbeing; how to spot the signs; and how to talk to young people who may be at risk. It also provides guidance for reporting and preventing incidents of sextortion.

The Exploited film and accompanying lessons aim to help young people understand healthy and mutually respectful relationships; including what healthy and unhealthy features look like in both online and offline contexts and how to report concerns of abuse.

This resource is an update to one of our most utilised and popular resources, with a new film and lesson plans. Many are trying to escape abuse, neglect, poverty and family conflict. Some are struggling with their mental health and are feeling isolated. Others are victims of criminal exploitation and are being coerced into transporting drugs for County Lines gangs.

With the cost of living putting pressure on families, mental health referrals reaching record levels and the lingering effects of the pandemic on education, the number of children in crisis is growing.

Social care, education, police and other civil and statutory services are so stretched that many of the systems set up to help vulnerable young people are failing them. They’re left desperate and without support.

This includes KCSiE which provides definitions of exploitation and highlights that all staff should be aware of the indicators of abuse, neglect and exploitation, understanding that children can be at risk of harm inside and outside of the school, college, hone and online.

Operation Striver - a route to submit soft intelligence about people, places and activities in relation to exploitation - this is not a replacement for safeguarding policies and procedures. Please note that if a child is at risk of immediate harm contact the Police on 999 and report to MASH without delay.

This includes a recent report into the increase risk of sextortion scams hitting younger victims and the number of teenagers who have encountered AI-generated nude deepfakes.

Care should be taken when sharing these resources with children - you know your child(ren) best - only show if you feel it is appropriate and ensure support is provided throughout discussions and interventions.

This resource includes lesson plans and supporting videos, where Actors describes a scenario about sex which - although it legally would constitute rape - had elements that did not fit the stereotype of what many understand as being rape. these elements included coercion, known perpetrators or offers to exchange sex for lodging. a final film was created as a debrief, depicting a successful and respectful negotiation of consent.

The aim is to provide practitioners, teachers and other youth professionals with a compact set of tools for delivering high quality education on sexual consent over five interconnected lessons.

The Foundation also provides support for men (18+) who have experienced any form of sexual violence in their past or as an adult. We understand that men who have been sexually assaulted may experience some of the same effects of sexual assault as women, but they may face other challenges that are more unique to their experience.

in accessibility has led to an explosion in both the volume and variety of pornography. And it is

not limited to pornography sites. Such material is present on social media and mainstream

With such harms linking to online safety, toxic influences, safe relationships, mental health, digital/media literacy and more, the PSHE education curriculum is uniquely suited to protecting children and young people.

• AI-generated images (e.g. face-swaps, nudification) are now clearly defined as illegal pseudo-images

• recognises growing risks from adult offenders using AI for sextortion

• emphasises that intent doesn't matter - even 'fake' images are criminal

What schools should do:

• treat AI-generated CSAM the same as traditional CSAM

• don't delete - preserve devices and evidence

• inform the DSL immediately - escalate via safeguarding pathways

• report to police (call 101 or 999 if immediate danger) as the primary pathway, with additional reports to CEOP or IWF as appropriate

• use Chidline's Report Remove for pupil-led takedowns

• update policies and training to include AI-related harms

This guidance ensures schools are prepared to respond to modern digital threats with the same urgency and legal clarity as traditional safeguarding concerns.

“Children are also disproportionately likely to be victims. Each year, around 500,000 children in England and Wales will experience some form of sexual abuse, and children account for 40% of all victims of sexual offences, despite making up just 20% of the population. This is a worldwide threat, with children overwhelmingly bearing the brunt of sexual violence and abuse both off and online. Victims of child sexual abuse are also more likely to be victims of adult sexual violence and domestic abuse. The Government cannot therefore truly tackle violence against women and girls without tackling the sexual abuse of children.”

• Stay Informed: Learn about the various ways AI can be misused to create child sexual abuse imagery, including the manipulation of existing images or the generation of entirely new content.

If the submissions do not meet the criteria they may be rejected and a notification will be sent to you stating the reasons why.
