People believe this because every time we see pictures of Africans, they are starved to the point their ribs are showing begging for a new life. "Filthy" and "miserable" are words that are used to talk about African people living in the "real Africa." We have to realize though that we can't assume these stereotypes are true until we actually experience and visit Africa ourselves.
