Lincoln's actions showed his dedication even in his early years when he was a young child on a poor farm trying to survive. He had the dedication to help his father persevere through the years without his mother. "His father was a farmer who
could not read or write and who gave Abe an ax at the age of
nine and sent him to split logs into rails for fences. His mother
died while Lincoln was still a young boy." (line 45)

He also demonstrated dedication throughout his younger years by striving to make a better life for himself besides from being a poor farmer like his father. He studied well and worked hard for his success later in life. "By the time Abe Lincoln grew up, he’d had less than a year
of school. But he’d managed to learn to read and write, and
he wanted a better life for himself than that of a poor farmer. " (line 51-53)

When Lincoln's wife died of an illness Lincoln was struck with a silent grief, he never spoke about her after her death. He continued to live with the grief of loosing his wife but for those who knew him they feared he would kill himself over his grief. He showed dedication to his wife by loving and caring for her until she passed.

His feelings also played a role in his character when he was an active fighter in slavery. He demonstrated dedication by fighting against slavery which no president had dared to do until Lincoln. He dealt with a four year war throughout his presidency and managed to win the war. He showed dedication to his troops on the battle field by passing laws which would grant access to the former slaves to perform tasks in the war such as fighting.
