The Second Continental Congress was made in Philadelphia's Independence Hall on May 10, 1775. The Congress appointed George Washington as the commander of the Continental Army. The Congress also issued the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, which allowed Congress to do things like seek alliance with France. Almost every significant political figure of the American Revolution was in the Continental Congress. In 1789, the U.S. Constitution went into effect and the Continental Congress ended forever and was replaced by the U.S. Congress. It did not function well when it was peaceful, but it helped the nation during the American Revolution.

He announced that the Virginia Company voted to rid of material law and create a legislative assembly called the General Assembly. The assembly’s first meeting was at a church in Jamestown on July 30, 1619. Only white men who owned a certain amount of property were permitted to vote for Burgesses. In 1643, the assembly became the House of Burgesses where they granted supplies and originated laws. This system remained unchanged until the American Revolution when George Washington was elected President. It was the first democratically elected legislative body in the British American colonies.

Dec 19, 1777 - Jun 19, 1778

In the year of 1777 during winter time, while the British were at Philadelphia, president George Washington decided to make his camp at Valley Forge. The life of the troops at Valley Forge were at the brink of collapse. There wasn't much food to eat and the men's usual meal would be vinegar and rice or "fire cakes" which was just a unpleasant mixture of flour and water. There was also a shortage of clothing, shoes, and blankets. Due to the how close and tight the cabins were sicknesses among the troops would spread quickly. All of these things caused many soldiers to die. George Washington, whoever, did not give up. He had assistance from other countries such as Russia and France. France helped with supplying military weapons and even more troops. This helped put George's focus right back on strategies to defeat the British and help with the American Revolution.

The Quebec Act gave French Canadians religious freedom and restored the french form of civil law. It was passed by the British Parliament to start a permanent administration in Canada, replacing the temporary government created at the time of the Proclamation of 1763. It was passed to gain the loyalty of the French-speaking majority of the Province of Quebec. Many American colonists viewed the act as a measure of coercion. They saw it as a new model for administration in the colonies, which would strip them of their self-elected assemblies. It appeared to repeal the land claims of the colonies by granting most of the Ohio Country to the province of Quebec. This act helped provoke an invasion in Quebec by the armies of the revolting colonies in the winter of 1775–1776.
