He also saw a vision of a crucifix during a war, in which he won. These both contributed to the legalization of Christianity. The Byzantine empire is very important to history. It allows Greco-Roman culture to survive. It is basically the Roman Empire, but with a new name considering things had changed. The Byzantines allowed Christianity to spread as well.
