May 8th 1945 ; Germany Surrenders

This marks the end of the reign of terror of Germany, and as you'll see next, it's ally.

The lasting impact of this is the fact that people even in this year remember what happened with Hitler, the third reich, and all these events. We remember to NOT let fascism and dictatorship win and to fight back as is the right of the people.

August 14th 1945 ; Japan surrenders

Japan officially surrendered, fully ending WW2 as we knew it.

This surrender caused ripples as WW2 was officially "over" and the major fighting stopped, unfortunately when people think of this surrendering we also tend to think of the two atomic bombs dropped, and it usually sparks a debate as to who was "right", despite both the US and Japan being morally incorrect.

February 9th 1946 ; Churchill gives speech

On this day, the very famous well known speech ("An iron curtain has fallen over Europe") was said by Wiston Churchill.

This speech was impactful to many people, both in its time, and now. Winston Churchill was willing to call out the issues that were happening, which isn't something that happens too often, both in history and now.

To this day, NATO has served us as a national protection plan. It's widely known and though we are not worried about the rise or spread of communism anymore, I'm pretty sure NATO has pulled together other stuff throughout the years.

The Berlin blockade ending was massive, as the citizens could finally reunite with the supplies they needed, such as water and electricity.

This serves as a reminder of the sheer will of the US at the time, as they kept the citizens fed and alive through this event/crisis. It serves to show others that the US will not give up when a promise of protection was made.

November 23th of 1963 ; Our only hot president gets killed.

These two events mark the end of the of the "cold war" era, and are not as fondly remembered, the red scare may have continued for a bit but it has mostly calmed by now, I believe.

This marks entering a peacefuler era of the US, but it also spawned millions of braindead teenagers 30 years later calling themselves commies and neo-nazis on the internet. Sigh.
