The Philippines was colonized by the Spaniards for more than 300 years so my blood is now mixed with different races. The Spaniards would also rank us based on our races, only people who are rich have access to higher opportunities. People born in Spain are called Peninsulares, people born in the Philippines called Insulares, people mixed with Spain and Natives were called Mestizo/Mestiza, Indios for the Native Filipinos, and Sangley for the Chinese. During this time everything was run by the Church. They used the 3Gs also known as Gold, God, and Glory. Our economic behavior as Filipinos changed because we were taught to live the same way the Spaniards lived. Noong parte ng gobyerno nila na magbayad ng buwis, tayo rin ay natutong magbayad ng taxes, we learned how to save money, and so on. The Philippines is also known to be rich for its spices and other useful items so they would trade it for things like ham from the US which led us to have large potential for investment opportunities. The colonial experience also affected our social behavior, they began to interact with people of the same kind. Kapag mayaman ka, mayaman lang kakausapin mo, hindi ka pwede makisama sa mga mahihirap. When the Americans colonized the Philippines the Americans entered the Filipinos into school and there they taught them things in English. This resulted to the Filipinos learning English but since we were also colonized by the Spaniards we were influenced by some of their words which is why we still use some of them today. Lastly the experiences, it gave Filipinos trauma and pain. The Filipinos experienced hardship as they were abused by the Spaniards and the Americans into thinking that they were ‘friends’. Based with the past we have from Ferdinand Marcos, we have a debt more than 10 billion unpaid from multiple countries. These other countries can ask for that money back which would lead to both countries in need of money. The result will be inflation because to earn more money we must sell more and more products with higher prices to pay our debt. Since inflation affects everything starting from the taxes, the food expenses, water and electricity uses, instead of paying our debt as a 3^rd-world country, we will continue to struggle more and more.

First of all because they are in war, why am I not receiving any letters from them? How are they doing? Are they still okay? Are they hurt? What if something bad happened to them? I would be scared because they might have been killed or hurt from the war especially if I don’t hear from them I won’t know what’s happening. I would feel sad because who will be left in my family if they are gone but somehow I would also be proud of them. If the reason for why they aren’t replying is because they perished well I will be proud of them because knowing that there is bombs, guns, and other deadly weapons are terrifying, but they faced it and fought to defend the country no matter how scary it is even if their lives depended on it. My father and older brothers are selfless and really devoted to the country considering that they are putting their life at stake just to keep the nation safe.

There is only a ration given and you have to conserve it because you only get it once in a while. Next, is that our rights to go here and there is prohibited. There will be guards and soldiers all around and me and my mom wouldn’t be able to go out. It would be like a lockdown. Before the war I could go wherever I want. Eat foods I want by choice and not have to save it and eat less to conserve the ration given which isn’t scheduled and is given rarely. Since I’m reminiscing I would feel like I took things for granted, I wasn’t grateful for what I had and now that I’m experiencing something worse, I would wish I could go back to the time wherein I didn’t have to worry what I’ll have to eat for my next meal, and so on. I would feel this because right now I’m complaining, how the wifi is slow, how I want to go out to the mall, but if the war is happening right now all wouldn’t matter except for prioritizing safety. I would panic in shock and not knowing what to do when the war reached our place. I would fear what would happen next. Based on the movie, “Chronicles of Narnia” their mother sent them to a place far away to protect the kids from getting hurt and I think I would feel the same. I would be scared what would happen. Will my mom send me away too? What will happen to her if she sends me away? Is she going to be safe? Who will look after her? What if she gets hit by the gunshots? Who will take care of her while me and my siblings are gone? What will happen to our lifestyle? I would also feel sorry for those who don’t have shelters, those families who aren’t fortunate, those families who only live under the bridge, what will happen to them? They could get killed. I will also feel scared as to what will happen next. Am I going to follow new rules? Are we still allowed to go out? Lastly, I would feel dominance and control from the war.
