Stay at home, study, eat, sleep and repeat. Seems easy, is this not true? It is for one day, it’s easy for two days and maybe for three days too. But it isn’t easy for three weeks, absolutely it’s not easy.

During this quarantine the days are all the same, time becomes a relative concept and it seems to be stuck on an eternal Sunday. You go to bad and it's Sunday and, surprise, when you wake up it’s still Sunday. Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, Sundays for three weeks and I HATE Sundays. I don’t want to think about my hatred towards the Sundays has grown because I would get scared of myself, sorry Mr. Hide but you compared to me are a very nice person.

It’s strange, my sister and I fight over who has to make bed. But it’s quite the opposite; I really want to do this bed, please give me something to do, clean the floor? Oh, it’s one of the most fun activities not to mention when there is to wash the balcony. Air, light, sometime if you’re lucky you can also see the sun, oh, I really love to wash the balcony.

Each of us tried to train and so one, two, three, then you remember there is a delicious cake made by your mom who, to overcome boredom, churns out sweet continuously to the point that Vincenzo Bellavia would turn pale. Squat? Uhm, maybe later or better tomorrow, now let’s focus on the cake and one, two, three forkfuls. Get fats? Who cares?

Nobody can see me.

This is the right time to cultivate hobbies for which we never have time. So, my sister started to draw and paint, my mom started to play the piano, my dad cuts wooden tablets with a drill and I practice pole dance (yes, now we have a pole in the middle of the room). So if you entered my home (but don’t worry, you can’t) you would find paint brought by my sister’s dirty hands, a new sound born from the union of drill with a piano and a girl spinning randomly on pole. ALRIGHT, this home is becoming a madhouse.

But it’s okay, because all this is very hard but sooner or later it will end and when this happens we will be able to give new value and new life to our routine. We will go down to the square and we will look at the sun and (obviously) we will burn the irises but it will be like being born again.

Chiara Garzilli

It was on February the 21th when the first case of Coronavirus was confirmed in Italy and until then the idea of a global pandemic had not matured yet in fact, the technical scientific committee said that the possibilities of a spread like wildfire were remote. Today, April the 5th, we are at about 130,000 total cases and would never have imagined that we could reach this point, barricaded at home, without social contact with the outside world and forced to socialize through screens. I miss doing outdoor sports, seeing my friends live, seeing my classmates... in short, the normal daily routine that I hope to resume as soon as possible. A state of extreme desolation that I've never experienced before and that I certainly didn't want to try, but unfortunately it's the cases of life that we are forced to face. I believe that until we find an effective cure we will never completely get out of this situation and I hope it will end as soon as possible because I don't know how much longer I will be able to stay in quarantine.

A picture that in my opinion best represents the coronavirus situation we are dealing with is: "Room in Brooklyn" by Edward Hopper (painted in 1932 and currently located in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston). This painting shows a woman sitting near a window of her home (in the city of New York) who probably looks at the other buildings or the streets outside on a sunny day, trying to give vent to her imagination too, because seeing this she felt like she had a continue sadness.

I think that this picture is very current since when I looking out the window I notice that everything has stopped; from the various activities to the life that everyone led before (going out with friends, doing sports, going to school etc ..) suddenly everything disappeared. However, Hopper shows a vase of flowers on the right with the light that invades him when he enters the house (Hopper loved to represent the light that reaches the walls or the floor) which he wants to metaphorically open to some feeling of hope. By saying that I would like to pass on the message that this situation has made me interested in things that I didn't pay much attention to before and having new interests. I hope that when this situation ends, we will start our "normal life" again with a different awareness.

“Room in Brooklyn” - Edward
Hopper (1932)
