- Within this class and experimenting on taking two images to merge later on, I have found that getting the lighting of the objects to be difficult.
- I used a soft box for lighting because it is the best way to go as there isn't any harsh lighting to reflect onto the light Bub and ice cream cone.

- The angle of the light was lit from above at a slight angle to the right. I also used a tripod so that the camera was eye level with the subject. This was the same for both images.
- The difficulties that I faced today was that the bulb and fuze blew so I had to change the whole lighting setup to get the light working again.

- The angle of the lighting was at the left and right side of the objects because I wanted them to have an even amount of exposure while also controlling how harsh the shadows are. 
I used a tripod so that the camera was eye level with the subject because being eye level can connect the sewers eyes more that an above or below angle. 
This is the same for the three images I have taken.
- The difficulties I faced today was when pouring the Fanta. I was able to have help with this task but the difficulties of this was with the shutter speed because I needed the liked to freeze mid-air.
- Next time I would bring more props because I had to pour the Fanta back into the can instead of using a fresh one.

If I were to do this photo again I would bring a wet cloth as I only had a dry napkin to wipe up, so not all marks were removed completely from the objects and background. For each object I used the quick selection tool and then went onto select and mask to clean up the edges and anything I missed. The quick selection tool didn't work as well with the cone due to the background being too close in colour to the cone so u had to use the brush tool to help me out which is time consuming and not as accurate and neat, so next time I am shooting I met remember this. After this I used the move tool and transform to move and change my objects so they would fit how I would like in the image. At this point I decided to make a group to help myself be more organised and not be lost in all the layers. I then made a base background. I decided to go with this pink as it is a bright colour plus it works well with the yellow and white of the light bulb and cone. I then made a layer of everything in one to help me make the shadow. I again used the quick selection tool to select the whole light-cream and put a black to white gradient with the top being the white/gray. After this I again used transform to change the perspective and distort this shadow I have made to where I wanted it. I changed the shadow to multiply and changed the opacity. I did all this to make the pink background shine through and not make the shadow super harsh.I also put this into a folder. - For my first image which was the orange, I selected the subject and added a mask layer so that only the orange was left.
I then used transform scale and rotate to size down the orange so it was the size and angle I wanted.
- The next image I edited was of the Fanta can and the frozen liquid. 
I selected the subject and used the brush tool to take everything apart from the can lid and some liquid away.
I used transform scale and rotate to get the lid to a good size and position within the orange and rotated it so that the liquid looks like it is pouring out of the orange.
- The last edited image I did was of floating liquid going into a glass, I selected the subject and use the brush tool to get away any excess that wasn't needed in the image. 
I used transform scale to change the size of the glass and liquid to match the liquid coming out of the can. 
I also changed the type of lighting so that the glass and liquid looked more transparent to the background.
- I used the move tool to merge all of the images together by lining them up with one another.
- I used bevel & emboss on the can lid so that the lid would look more realistically in the orange.

- The angles of the lighting was at the front left and the above right hand side because I wanted to get an even amount of exposure onto the subject.
I used a tripod at eye level because I wanted the viewer to connect with the photograph more than they would if the level was above or below the subjects.
I used an 100mm Micro lens due to the subjects being small and I wanted them to be the main subjects in the photograph. 
I used these techniques and equipment for each image.
- The only difficulty that I faced was when the nut was reflecting a lot of light because of its shiny and smooth surface, so to change this I changed the power of the soft boxes -mainly the soft box on the right- to decrease the reflecting light.

- The difficulty that I faced was with lighting the subject properly so I corrected this by moving the position of the beauty dash and adding the wall of polystyrene to balance the exposure reflected onto the subject.

- For my first image which was the wand pen, I selected the subject and erased excess with the brush tool.
I use transform scale to make the one smaller so that I could also make room for the knife image when I edited it.
- For my second image which was a knife I selected the subject under a success with the brush tool.
I used transform scale to make the knife smaller so that it could slot nicely into the wand layer.
- I added a wooden and dark green background because the wood is to represent a chopping board and the dark green because of the deadliest curse in Harry Potter (the killing curse) which is the same colour.
- Lastly I wanted to create a shadow to make it look more realistic, so I merged both the edited wand and knife together to create a layer with a complete knife pen to achieve a shadow layer affect.
- With the new merged layer I selected the subject and used the gradient tool. 
I set the gradient tool to black and grey while I drew a gradient through the merged knife pen.
- I decreased the opacity and used the blur tool to merge the black and grey together to make them the colour of a shadow and make it so the black was where the shadows were and the grey where the light was to give the believable affect of a shadow.
- The last editing I did was I used transform scale and rotate to make the shadow layer below the knife pen while also making the shadow a realistic size and angle. 
I then used transform again to distort the shadow layer to make it more convincing of being a real shadow that was photographed in the studio.

As this combination involved a beauty product, I thought it best to use quite bright light on white paper, to create that stark and clean effect. I like both of these edits but, I have to admit this might be the slightly weaker one, I shot the lipstick with the brand name off centre which makes the writing distracting, I also find the reflections in the silver tube similarly in the way of a smooth combination, which is a shame because I find having more of the lipstick product visible allows the objects more balance and symmetry in stature.

The angle was challenging, I shot these from the same angle, but I now see that I should've shot the dice from a slightly lower perspective as the stems of the cherry started to disappear when I layered the dice on top in photoshop (If you zoom in, you can see I've manually drawn the ends of the stems to overlap onto the dice using the eyedropper and brush tools). The perspective of the dice in general was tricky, it is pretty clear that I had to distort the di to the right to make it line up with the stems of the cherry better which makes it look very unnatural especially when compared to its left hand counterpart. The dice also seem oversized compared to the cherry stem, my initial intention was to object select both of the dice as well as the cherries and move them onto a plain white background but, because of the cherries shape this proved impossible and instead of being able to brush out the cherries and make the dice as small as I liked I had to cover the cherries with the dice, which resulted in them being a bit too big (this was also the reason I couldn't remove the shadows of the cherries which would be pretty visable if you were looking for them). I would like to have another go at taking and editing these photos as I think the idea could work if executed better.

In order to make the case more see through I duplicated it and made the cope in hard light and then used the black brush to erase the original parts of where I wanted it to be see through. And to create the shadow I copied the objects and merged them together, selected and put a black to white gradient on it. I then blurred it and put the opacity down. I used transform to shape it and move it to where I wanted the shadow to be. I then made a new layer and filled it in with grey I then opened that layer into camera raw and put a vigneting effect on and changed the opacity to have I wanted. I also made a dodge Layer as there were some parts of the image I wanted to brighten up. I did this by making a new layer and filling it with grey, I changed it from normal to overlay and used the dodge tool where I needed. I added a background by using solid colour as this allows me to change the background colour at any time during editing. I also used transform on the objects to make them fit the image better.

I brought the highlights down added bit of clarity and texture. I then tools - photoshop - load layers into photoshop layers. I experimented with different angles until I found the ideal one. By setting my camera to a slow shutter speed, it allowed me to shine a torch at different angles of this set. I took around 10-20 photos then narrowed them down untill I had 8. I used the different layers on photoshop and changed the layer from normal to lighten. I then tweaked certain parts by dimming down the light at certain points by using the black mask and adjusting the opacity to a lower and more subtle brush. I mainly used a palm sized, soft warm light, I found this to work best with my set up as it brought out the warm tones in the wood and gave a nice contrast from my props which were mainly colder colours. 
I also used a small torch, with a brighter light to add more detail to the wood but mainly the camera as I found since it was a dark black the softer light wasn't enough to highlight the detail of the camera body. 
I struggled initially to light the scissors as they reflected the light and it was really easy to over expose them and leave hotspots. I solved this problem by changing the way I was lighting the scissors, instead of lighting them from the front and above I changed to lighting it from the back and bouncing the light into the camera, I also kept the light moving and didn't leave it on the scissors for the full shutter, this eliminated the hotspots and over exposure.

I also added a background to make the final product stand out in the foreground.
- For my first image I edited the walnut.
I selected the subject to take away the cream background and I used the brush tool to erase the blue tac from the bottom of the of the walnut.
I used transform scale and rotate so that I should adjust the size and angle of the nut to how I am wanting it.
- The second image I edited was the Lego figure's body.
I used the lasso tool to cut the figure out from the cream background and I used the brush tool to erase excess around the subject.
I used transform scale and rotate so that I could get the nut to look like the actual head.
- The next step I did was add a new layer and use colour fill to make a dark green background because of how green contrasts well with the purple of the Lego figured because the green also represents nature to make the nut stand out even more.
- I wanted  to make a shadow so that the nut person would look more realistic so I merged the nut and Lego layers together for a separate layer and selected the subject.
I created a new layer so that I could make a completely separate layer for the shadow.
I used the gradient tool and I changed the colours to Black & Grey.
Once I created the gradient within the selected area of a blank layer I used the transform distort, scale, rotate and skew so that I could get the shadow in the right position.

I used the brush tool to take away unnecessary string from the mask so it looks like the mask is being worn properly. 
- Next step I did was add a new layer and use colour fill to make a yellow background because of how vibrant and bright the two colours are together.
- I wanted  to make a shadow so that the hand sanitiser would look more realistic so I duplicated the hand sanitise on a separate layer and selected the subject.
I created a new layer so that I could make a completely separate layer for the shadow.
I used the gradient tool and I changed the colours to Black & Grey.
Once I created the gradient within the selected area of a blank layer I used the transform distort, scale, rotate and skew so that I could get the shadow in the right position.

 Overall, I'm a little disappointed with how it turned out, I
think the camera should've been directly overhead the wax seal instead of the stamp
as this makes the image look a little squint. I do like the highlights on the
spoon and ink well, but I would like to re-do the wax seal and fountain pen as
I think the wax is too overexposed and the pen too underexposed. 
 I also think the background would look better with more
shadow in between the sticks of bamboo.
 I have photographed letters a few times but have never
managed to shine the light through enough to see the words on the page so I'm
pretty happy that I finally got that to work in this photo (left corner)

 I struggled to find an angle for this set-up, hence the two
versions.
 I like this closer version but I do think it makes the
objects look a bit incomplete when you can’t see their full length.
 It would've been nice to bring out more light on the grate
especially under the chopping board as the texture is slightly lost. The same
applies to the chopping board, except the light is too strong, I would want to
dim it down a little and move closer to the board when lighting it from the
side.
 The texture on the tools turned out really well and I think they
all look great (but would definitely improve from being in the image fully).

 The fact the all the objects can be seen in full, does helps
the image feel a bit more whole, this being said, I think I could've cropped in
the handle of the wooden mallet and moved the round grate into the middle of
the table (further from the camera) when setting up to create a better composed
photo.
 I like how the tools are lit but compared to the light around
them (on the bandana and wood) they start to look a bit dull, I'd probably like
to go in and bring out the highlights more on those objects.
 I think I was able to bring out more texture in this image
(especially in the bandana and the chopping board) but, because of the lighting
choices and busyness of the set-up I think the other version of this works a
lot better. If I were to do it again, I would probably light the set a little
different and maybe remove one or two of the items to make the photo simpler
and more effective.

Originally, I had lit the top stain glass section of the box to be the brightest part of the image but, decided that the image was more impactful if this was left shadowy, I instead highlighted the chains falling out of the box and the lion heads on the feet. If I were to take this photo again, I would probably turn the box slightly around as it feels a tad off centre and perhaps change the focus point to the stain glass or lion head instead of the silver edging on the right hand side of the box. I might also cover the background completely in black as you can see the white wall behind, which is pretty distracting.

I then hid each layer and one by one I made a mask but instead of a hunt mask It was a black one and used the white to bring out the section of the image I was wanting. I did this for all the layers. However I ran into a problem. I had moved the tripod during the shoot so the image wasn't the same so I had to move them around and try and blend so it would look natural. I opened the images in bridge and selected the ones I wanted to use and clicked the tools icon and went to photoshop and clicked load layers in photoshop.

I first sorted through the images I wanted to use. The ones which caught my eye and brung out the texture of an object or background. I then named the images as to what object(s) I was using the image for as this kept me less confused and organised. I  then opened them in bridge and then in photoshop in layers. I then went image by image creating a black mask or chaining the image to lighten and then adding a white mask. This really depended on how much I wanted to use and which would be easier depending on how much light/how bright the image was. Also when using the brushes I changed my opacity depending on what I was using it for. If I wanted to get rid of a certain area my opacity was 100%, if I wanted to blend the 2 layers together I put my opacity between 15-30% so I would have more control and could use it gradually. I shot the photo with a soft box from the right side and used blue tac to place the toast and cassette in the correct position for editing. I prefer this edit greatly when compared to the other version but, I do think there is still room for improvement, going back I think I would choose a cassette case with more colour or at least bring out the colour in this one more as the toast seems very saturated and therefore separated from the case. I might also pick a plain white bread instead of a brown seeded one as the seeds were difficult to edit around and cause the toast to look more separated from its background.

I like how dramatic a photo this is, and I do think the props work well together, the background especially I would like to use again as the texture is interesting. However, there are flaws to be seen here, I don't think the ring is sharp enough, it is in focus, but I would like it to be more stand-out, I think the focus and colour of the petals over shadow it a little, to combat this is would light the ring differently, with more of a shadow on the jewels and brighter highlights on the back. I like the overhead angle of this photo but, I think I would either zoom in or out a little bit more as it looks a bit indecisive at this middle distance. Overall, I do like the concept of this photo but, I think it could look a lot better.

I think the best parts of this photo are the shadows and textures. I worked hard to bring out a shadow with the pages of the book (casting onto the letter) and a shadow of one of the doilies on the background, I'm happy with the outcome as I think they add a depth to the image. I also think the book and box turned out well, in the end I decided to only light one half of the box and I think it makes the item look more impactful as a result. I spent a long time editing around the doilies, but I still think they look a little ‘fake’, in retrospect I would probably use a dimer light against them as part of the problem is that they are overexposed and therefore lose some of their texture. I decided to go with a plain background, I originally wanted to really distress this brown paper but realised I wanted the background to look like it was wallpaper so I left it plainer, in my opinion this was the wrong decision as I think the lack of dimension in the background makes the image feel a little more disconnected. Going back, I would also change the angle of the camera so as to not see the wall behind the background this was a glaring mistake which I hope to go back and edit out before the end of the block. Like many other of the images I've done, I like the concept but think it needs some tweaking in order to be as good as its potential.

I also added a background to make the final product stand out in the foreground.
- For my first image I edited the cottage house.
I used select subject to take away the excess that wasn't needed.
I used transform scale so that I could change the sizing of the house to size I wanted.
- The second image I edited was the playing cards.
I used select subject on each of the cards and took away the excess.
I used transform scale and rotate so that I could make it as if the cards are coming out of the chimney.
I used the blur tool on the bottom of each card to make it like the smoke is blending with the cards.
-The last image I used was steam from my kettle.
I changed the image lighting in photoshop from normal to lighten as I made sure that the steam was clear to see.
I used the brush tool to take away excess from the steam (e.g., the kettle and background). 
I used transform scale and rotate to change the size and angle to what I was looking for.
- The next step I did was add a new layer and use colour fill to make an orange background because of how orange contrasts well with the blue of the roof making the objects stand out in the foreground.
- I wanted to make a shadow so that the cottage would look more realistic so I used a duplicate of the cottage on a separate layer and selected the subject.
I created a new layer so that I could make a completely separate layer for the shadow.
I used the gradient tool and I changed the colours to Black & Grey.
Once I created the gradient within the selected area of a blank layer I used the transform distort, scale, rotate and skew so that I could get the shadow in the right position.

I'm happy with this picture overall and it is my favourite from this task, I think all the props I used complement each other well and out of all my photos they are the most compatible when put together. As well as the uniformity of this image, I also enjoy the highlights on all the objects especially the letter and wax stamp (I think the wood handle on the latter has way more of an impact due to this highlight). I'm happy with the texture I was able to bring out in all the objects the letter being the stand out, I had dyed the paper with tea to give it a light yellow tinge which I think works well with the wrinkles I created as it was drying. If I were to re-do this photo, I might keep the bamboo background a bit darker, I initially made it light because I wanted it to look like an outdoor scene but, I now think the wood table + the bamboo + the scarf background makes the image look a bit choppy, so I would darken this up a bit to make it a little less distracting. I like my decision to chop the letter off at the right side as I think it highlights the geometric shapes to be found in this image, if I had not done this, I think the lines of the pen, letter, scarf and bamboo as well as the circles of the stamp, wax and ink well would've been more lost.

For this image I tried to use less reflective items as with some of my images I found that as the props were reflective it was harder not to have hotspots or have the prop overexposed. For this image I mainly focused on bringing out the writing on the spools of film and the texture of the wood.
I used a soft warm light as I've found that it works best with the warm tone of the wood.
I imported the images into photoshop layers, I kept the darkest image as my base and changed the layers above from normal to lighten one by one to create the image above. My settings used were 1/125 F11 ISO 100. I was inspired by the photographer juliette mainx for this image. I chose a large makeup compact as I thought it would work well with having a big cookie inside. A problem I encountered with this image is that I felt the cookie looked rather flat at first which made it look unrealistic. This was because I had a softbox on first when shooting my compact so I took it off and switched to a hard light source. This gave the cookie more depth to it and more dimension. Overall I am very pleased with how this image turned out. for this image I saw the idea originally on Pinterest as i was looking for ideas as I couldn't think of what objects to merge together. I got the items during break and got paint as I forgot to bring my own. I opened them in layers in photoshop and named the files so I could have an idea what I used In that image. I changed the images to lighten and the first image was normal and I started with the darkest image this time which I didn't do before. I used white/black masks depending on how much/little I am adding. So if it was a tiny part of the image I wanted to add I would use the black mask rather than the white but if I was just removing a few things I used the white one. I also put my opacity ion the brush down as this gave me more control on how much was coming through and if there any parts of the image hat where distracting/taking you eye away from the main subject then I was darken it slightly so it wouldn't be distracting. this is my final image for illusion, I got some fries the reference image I found was in a cardboard fries container but they didn't have that so I had to result to the paper bag but it still turned out alright. I was originally going to shoot it with someone holding the paper bag and edit it to look like their spilling out the cigs but I then just layer it flat and still got the result to make it look like it's spilled out. I shot different variations of the fags spilling out but I went with the one I merged with the bag as it looked more real than the other options. I used the light from my window as well as a torch to illuminate the chain and front of the necklace. The orange glow you see on the bottom right was reflected light from the lamp which was bouncing off of an orange desk and back onto the item. I think this photo works because of this reflected light as it looks like it is coming from the match. I tried a few different backgrounds but decided the grey worked best as it complimented the varying orange and silver hues in the photographed items. At first I tried to make the match flame look like it was engulfing more of the jewellery, but because I was not able to set anything heart shaped on fire at the time of taking the picture, decided it would look more seamless if the flame was just beginning to burn the object. Overall, I think this picture worked, going back I would probably wait till the match was more alight to include more of it in the photo, perhaps also with it in a landscape position (the necklace hanging amid the flames instead of above them) as I find the current composition a little underwhelming. I would also try to get more texture out of the flame by passing different materials through it, in its current state you can tell it was pictured separately because it doesn’t change direction when against the necklace, I would like to make the combining of the two more seamless in this way.

I'm not overall pleased with how this image came out, partly because it's lacking a concept but mostly because the edit didn't turn out very good. I lit the objects from above, with another light off to the right side, I think this was the right decision for these objects as the texture on the surface of the camera was well brought out and the candle has depth quality. Originally, I was going to keep the background and camera in colour but, the edits I tried of this looked too overwhelming which is why I reverted to a black and white background as this brings more attention to the illusion portion of the image. For the background I used a pink pillowcase, this was to match the pink in the candle (the shadows on this turned out to be too distracting which is why I made my own background layer) but, due to the angle which I was shooting from, this caused the bottom of the camera to pick up the fuzzy texture of the material below. To mask this, I went around the camera with the brush tool to create a fade around the entire object, this was in an effort to blend it better into the layer background I added. I don't think this strategy worked though, the fade makes the image look messy, the brush strokes also aren't even, so make the camera look shorter on the right side than it is on the left. I edited the '35mm' from the camera below back onto the candle, I think this worked and helps the objects feel more connected to one-another but, I would've liked to change the angle so the numbers were sitting in between the coloured pieces of wax as in the photo they are kind of floating above which does not help the illusion. Overall, I don’t hate this image, I just think it could've been done better with more planning.

- The image I used as my base layer was the darkest image because when editing the light onto it the edits are clearer to see.
- The first image I edited onto the base layer had slightly brighter bones.
I created a mask layer by clicking the option key and selected the mask layer so that instead of white and brushing over the image to get to the base layer, I used black so that I was drawing on the base layer.
I used the brush tool to draw on all the bones so that they stood out in front of the shadowed background.
I also used the brush tool to make the wood stand out from the shadows.
- The second image I edited onto the base layer was the goblet and the liquid inside which was brighter than in the other images. 
I created a new black mask layer and used the brush tool to draw in the light of the objects on that image.
- The third image that I edited onto the base layer had a much brighter wooden circle stand within it.
I created a new black mask layer and used the brush tool to paint over the darkened wood to make it brighter so that the bones looked like they were being presented on something in the dark instead of the bones floating in the black void.
- The last image I edited had most of the right side of the bones brighter.

I created a black mask layer and I used the brush tool to get all the detailed light I wanted and I brushed the top of the image so that the black void can be seen with an eerie shadow of the skull.

I decided that I wanted to recreate an image I found on google images. Unfortunately I couldn't find who actually was behind my inspired image. Some problems I encountered during this shoot was having to photograph the fruits quite quickly before they spoiled, keeping the banana sitting upright and getting the right part of the banana in focus. At first I was shooting the sliced part of the banana in the foreground but realised that part of the banana will be covered up by the kiwi so I decided to make the standing up part of the banana in focus instead. This gave more depth to my image. After adding the kiwi I feel this composite is quite successful because it makes the fruit become a mystery to the viewer. ]]> 2023-02-16 11:09:36 UTC https://padlet.com/photostaffcogc/lj0dobl89z7tmw0e/wish/2484822076 Final Illusion shot 30392626 https://padlet.com/photostaffcogc/lj0dobl89z7tmw0e/wish/2484836901 When taking this photo the first time I resized that It wasn't correct this issue to the bottle being in focus in the wrong area making the shot unrealistic I later fixed this by getting a new bottle and then made sure that all the bottle is in focus because all of the camera was in focus, I think this photo has worked out really well due to it being an illusion but still looking realistic, I used the pen tool to make sure that the bottle was correctly shaped and in the right spot, I could have changed a few things with the photo but this is one of my best photos I would think and I was my favourite to make.

A soft box was behind the subject with the filter infant of the light creating a rainbow type highlight throughout the plastic/glass. We tried to find songs with notably boosted bass. There are many forms of macro lenses such as reverse rings, extension tubes and normal macro lenses. The aperture has to be at the lowest possible f stop or it won't get the full picture to its extent. I used many small detailed objects and I ultimately used a coffee bean for its rough exterior. The camera settings where ISO at 100, f/2.8 was the preset aperture and shutter speed was at 1/30s. My focal point is the shell and the background are different bits of wood. I lit each part individually with a torch. I then went into bridge and went through the images which I wanted to use and put them in a different folder, I opened bridge/camera raw and edited them. I then opened them in photoshop in layers and started from the darkest image I had. I then made the rest of the images hidden and one by one I unhide them and I changed them rom normal to lighten and put a white mask most of the time since I was keeping a majority of the areas that showed. I kept the ares of each image which intrigued me the most and showcased the texture of the shell and wood the best. In this shoot I sued Aperture f/25, ISO 100 and shutter speed of 5 seconds. When editing I took the darkest image first and worked on top of that each layer was a different image I wanted to incorporate into the final product, I used white and black masks depending on how much/little I wanted to use of that image, I change the photo from normal to lighten to show only the brighter parts of the image this took out a lot of unwanted dark areas that I would've have to take away anyway with the mask. This isn't what I wanted so I decided to switch it over to the side where the skin is more visible (the left side) I also put the light a whole lot closer to the objects so again it looked less dull. There came a problem from this, where the food had been cut open to see the inside was looking dark so I took a piece of white paper to use as a reflector.
