Polynesian people sailed across the Pacific and settled on Easter Island around 1250. The island is famous for the giant stone sculptures of heads, called Moai. For ages, the island has been subject to conspiracies on how the statues were created, but now, there is little not known. They were made out of tuff and polished with pumice, and moved with big logs. The people use the trees to make canoes and move Moai, and soon, there were no trees on the island. The population diminished, and now we wonder how such an advanced civilization failed so miserably.
