    Merit-based and other scholarships are not awarded based solely on financial aid. These scholarships are awarded to those students who have a special talent, skill, achievement or other qualifying factor.

    Need-based is free money given to students based on their financial situation or need. Students don’t have to pay this money back.

    Gift-aid is a type of financial aid that students don’t have to pay back. The 2 types of gift aid are grants and scholarships. This is money given to a student that doesn’t have to repay the money nor work 

    Self-help includes work opportunities and loans.
    There are 2 types of self-help: Loans, it’s money that you use, but in the future you’re responsible to repay that money, usually with interest. Employment, part-time campus or off-campus job.
