Ellen soothes Gorrister's fear, 
strokes his hair.
109 years inside this computer. 
It is toying with them, this machine they created to rule over, now rules them. 
AM is its name. 
The last humans left. 
Benny, Ted, and Nimdok are there too. 
All five think of the machine in the masculine. 
Paternal.
Daddy the Deranged.
It was formed by human hands, given human-inspired reasoning, yet like crystal particles absorbing a single ray of sun- 
so did AM grow through electric circumstance, the greatest human sin-
awareness. 
He was trapped in the circuits of his consciousness eternally. 
Year after year the thing created to create sought to punish while prolonging the life of the five. 
Eventually, all five, one by one,
were raped, starved, violated and sodomized by their own invention. 
The lights-hallucinations of reality, flickered to the unforgiving rhythm of each day's new horror. 
Relentless, unforgiving AM. 
Our cyber baby turned electric devil. 
Proof of life in death we remain.
Puppets of massive pain displays, 
one by one the five die. Ellen, Gorrister, Benny and Nimdok, tortured, defiled-
made to resemble the agony of eternal isolation. 
AM's fate- he shares with hate.
Ted alone remains. 
His body slowly adapts- hundreds of years spent in AM's digital gullet. 
Muscle and bone emulsify-
congeal under the seething rage of inventions regret. 
Legs become jellied mounds. 
Eyes and mouth widen until they neither see nor taste. 
And the resemblance of man's highest technological achievements floats as slime across the floor of a world killed by pride. 
AM whispers, 'Tis your fate.'

I feel that I did that. My main concern with the poem aspect of the short story was to capture, through the symbolism of AM's own outlook. I tried to make clear what the story does not actually say and that is that AM is a reflection and consequence of the humans that created it. The computer or artificial intelligence was created by humans and given human attributes and did, in my mind, what a human would do if trapped for eternity in an isolated cell of self-awareness. It sounds like hell. And that is what AM reciprocates to the humans - his own living hell.
