Through out their marriage harold insists that they keep srparate bank accounts but he uses this to take advantage of Lena. He is inconsiderate and treats women as a pushover. They achieve "balance" and "equality" 
Though he makes "srven times more" than Lena does, he splits the bills evenly with her and he is at an advantage.
