Was this shooting justified?

I believe the actions of the officer involved were justified. The man was hiding underneath laundry obviously trying to avoid being found and could have potentially injured if not killed the Officers who were searching the place.

The man can be seen lunging at the police officer who is cornered in the room - this is posing a threat and as a result, the officer fired, killing the man.

I do not however justify the officer shooting the man 8 times. I believe that was a little excessive. I do also think that the second officer with the body cam could have helped to contain the situation but helping to constrain the man when seen lunging at the officer.

My opinion is that although other measures could have taken place to avoid the death of this man, that the actions of the police are necessary as he could have potentially posed to be a greater threat.

In the video, a man was wanted for multiple offences. An arrest warrant was given to police to allow them to enter the house and arrest the individual. To their surprise the individual was hiding under laundry and was holding a knife. The wanted offender screamed "kill me" at police and charged towards police, in the process he was shot by a police officer who was cornered in the room and also an officer who was standing outside the room. Approx 8 shots were fired to bring down the offender which he died at the scene. Furthermore prior to the death of the offender, he had stabbed to officer who was in the room also.

I believe that the police were in the right as they 1) had a warrant to arrest the individual. however to their surprise the offender was charged at them with a knife so police had to use reasonable force to stop the offender. However, i believe 8 shots is excessive perhaps wound him or use a stun gun instead

through the viewing of the video, there are shows the law enforcement was justify due to reasonable action. According to the video, the man was hiding also mentioned by the officers the man had a knife as a weapon.
Hence, he provoked and threaten the police officers show the law enforcement are able to go in action.

i believe the actions of the officer involved were justified. As he was posing a threat towards police by lunging at the police officer, with the addition of holding a knife. The man seemed to have intentions of causing harms to police officer.

However i do question the excessive use of the fire arm by the police officer. There could have been other measures taken to fix the situation other than the use of a fire arm. However the actions taken by police are justifiable.

In this video, we are shown a man resisting arrest who is insisting in causing severe harm to the police officer.

I believe that in this case, the Officer has reasonable grounds to shoot the offender, as his own life was at risk. This can be shown through the offender attempting to stab the police officer, who was able to quickly fire his weapon, which deescalated the situation.

I believe that the actions of the officers were justified, based on the following grounds

The man had three charges held against him, one of which made him a danger to the community. When the officers presented the warrant he was non compliant and violent (stabbing with a knife).
The officers had the power to confiscate the knife (under section 24 of LEPRA) however this was not viable due the aggression of the attack. Therefore leading to the man being defensively shot.
From the beginning, the man was not complying with the arrest, he could have fled the scene at any time, allowing the officers to act in the justifiable and accountable matter they did.

Honestly, i feel conflicted. I do agree with the officers taking action and shooting the offender however i do believe they could have handled it better.
There was an obvious threat and its clear to see that the offender had intentionally tried to hurt the officers which this is where the justification comes in.
However, i seriously believe that the amount of times they had shot him was overboard and i believe that they could've tried to shoot him elsewhere. Maybe i'm thinking too much into it and because i have never been in that situation so i would never fully understand but i think that it could've been handled a little better.

The following video depicts a known convicted sex offender being Oklahoma police after the offender lunges out at these officers. Through the examining of this video it has become evident that the shooting of this assailant is justified through the assessment of American legislation.

On October 30, 2017, Oklahoma police officers fatally shot a Phillip Joel Trammel after the suspect was confronted due to outstanding offences; forgery, failure to pay bills and failing to register as a sex offender (New York Post, 2017). Upon confrontation, the individual acted out in response to the police, ultimately charging at police officers where upon he was shot dead. The reason as to why this shooting is justified is because it acts in compliance with the use of lethal force amendment within the United States; with the officer feeling that serious harm may be caused to himself or others from this charging individual (Amnesty International, 2015).

In conclusion, due to the risk associated with the suspect, the police officer who shot said individual has his actions justified via the use of lethal force amendment, and as such remains well within their legal limitations.

http://nypost.com/video/wanted-man-jumps-out-of-a-pile-of-laundry-stabs-cop-is-shot-dead/

https://www.amnestyusa.org/reports/deadly-force-police-use-of-lethal-force-in-the-united-states/
