The Parent Partnership is simply a group of parents who come together and work closely with the school management team to help represent parent and carer views. 

The Greenfield Academy parent partnership has a very important role to play in school improvement by ensuring that the parental perspective is represented and considered.

What is the role of the Parent Partnership?

The GAPP helps to create an environment where all parents know that their views matter, and where they feel confident and comfortable putting them forward.

They work on behalf of all parents to discuss educational matters that are of importance to all. They do not get involved in individual circumstances relating to children or staff in the school.

GAPP business may include:

·         helping the school to develop partnerships between home, school and the community

·         communication with other parents and local schools

·         improvement planning for learning, teaching and parental involvement

·         consultations on education and policy

·         events such as assemblies, school fairs, and social events

·         contributing to the school vision, rationale and aims

·         growing school and community finances through fundraising and grant applications

·         representing the school parent forum locally and nationally

• Mrs Hutcheson joins us as a Principal Teacher of Guidance and will be the Guidance Teacher for all pupils in Monikie House who previously had Miss Harding as a Guidance Teacher.

• Miss Harding takes up the post of Principal Teacher of Inclusion within Slessor House and will be the Guidance Teacher for all pupils in Slessor House who previously had Ms Robertson as a Guidance Teacher.

• Ms Dunbar continues in her role as Principal Teacher of Support for Learning but will now also be the Guidance Teacher for pupils in Slessor House who previously had Mr Neil as a Guidance Teacher.

• Mr Downie has been appointed Principal Teacher of Inclusion – Supporting Learners as part of our efforts to effectively support all young people with their learning.

• Mr Kleppang remains absent from work at this time, with Mr Cuthbert continuing as Guidance Teacher in Dawson House in an Acting capacity.

• Pam Reid has joined us as an Education Resource Worker following Lee Haden’s departure.

Before the summer, the department welcomed parents and families to view the pupils’ finished work before it goes on display at Verdant Works, the McManus Galleries and the V&A Dundee in the future. The exhibition will celebrate both the students’ achievements and Dundee’s rich weaving heritage, connecting traditional skills with contemporary artistic expression. Incredible outcomes and a very rich learning opportunity!

180 new S1 pupils were inducted into our fantastic activity programme on Friday morning. Through the programme they enjoy weekly professional coaching in their chosen activities of Dance, Gymnastics, Rugby, Netball, Basketball and Racquet Sports! 🏉🏀🏐🎾💃🤸‍♀️

The portal has been developed to help provide parents/carers with information on their child's education and to support transactional home-school communications. It uses a convenient, online system which can be accessed via mobile devices. The Parents Portal securely links your My Gov account to the Seemis Click and Go database in your child's school.

All students recently performed with Dundee Schools Musical Theatre, doing Greenfield Academy proud in the process.

and Eve MacDonald all starred in recent productions of Hadestown and Sister Act.

Lennon was awarded first dibs on the donuts from Mr Lothian, in appreciation of his rendition of "Lady in the long black dress".

Hiro, Mahiro and Yikina were piped into the chamber and had the chance to share their experiences of Scotland and Greenfield Academy.

Liam Donnelly was nominated for excellent attendance and timekeeping by his reception teacher. Amy Shirkey, Ava Dewar and Harvey Dandie were nominated for their recent contribution to a national social media film with our partners at SDS. Cloe Allan was nominated by Art & Design in recognition of an excellent piece of design work and James Garvock recently impressed staff at Glasgow UNiversity during the summer school. Well done guys!

It was a highly competitive match, with many of the Greenfield boys playing their first full-pitch rugby game.

I wanted to make you aware of our activity provision for younger children we will be running during the contact evening. This is a provision where younger siblings can participate in supervised activities such as reading, crafts and board games. These will take place in the community library under the supervision of a member of Greenfield Academy staff and some of our Senior Childcare students.

We hope that this provision will be useful for parents juggling childcare with family contact appointments.

An online appointment booking system is in place to create your appointments with teaching staff prior to the evening.

If your child is a member of Slessor House, a member of our Slessor House team will contact you directly to arrange a suitable appointment time for the evening.

Supporting your Child's Health and Wellbeing - Routines

Last week we had a special visit from Steve Cummings from Nomads Badminton Club who provided a fun session for the children whilst parents enjoyed some mixed doubles 🏸🏸 Everyone enjoyed a relaxing chat and buffet with Dundee Bairns staff afterwards.

Our S1-2 took part in their first Spar Cup as a team, played some great football, scoring some great goals and came 3^rd out of the 5 schools. They ended up being 1 goal away from qualification to the regional rounds.

Our S3-4 girls however, managed to qualify to the regional rounds. They beat Grove in their first game and lost to St John's, but it was enough for them to get through.

Big thanks to Nieve & Sophia Riddell for helping coach the teams, along with Campbell Kirk, Darren Smith, Kallan Brown and Kai Symon for refereeing the event as well. 

A second half collapse saw the students run up a comfortable 6-1 victory in the end, although the staff team created plenty of second half chances and hit the woodwork three times.

Most importantly, the game was played in good spirits, and the students were very magnanimous in their victory.

Congratulations to the students - staff will strike back! £237 was raised for the school charities through this initiative.
