Hi, my name is Emma Skoglund and this is my food blog. I'm on the swim team and I love food. When I was little my grandma, my mom and my aunt would make food for all of the big holidays and I used to play with flour and water, off to the side and I desperately wanted to be able to use real food. I have had a lot of experience watching people cook but I don't have much, actually cooking. I am taking this class because I really enjoy learning new things about cooking and I find it very interesting.

In this lab we all made different types of dips for the superbowl. My group made a chili-cheese dip. It turned out pretty good, the cheese was a little hard on top. It was warm , gooey and cheesey. First we spread a layer of cream cheese on the bottom of the pie pan. After that we poured the chili on and sprinkles cheese on top of that. Our group worked well together, although there weren't many difficult skills used for this recipe. Another dip that i really enjoyed was the chocolate chip cookie dough dip. This dip was sweet and it tasted exactly like cookie dough. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the dips that were made but, that one really stood out for me. I can't wait to see what we cook next!!

This lab was all about presentation, every group made and plated brownies. My group decided to go with a classic brownie so that we could have more time to really play with the presentation. Our product was very elegant and many people said that it looked like something that you would get at a restaurant. We drizzled chocolate on the plate, then dusted our brownie in powdered sugar and put some berries on top. Another brownie that I liked was the red kitchen, they had chocolate chip brownies. while most of the groups had delicious brownies, one group, the yellow kitchen, produced brownies that were inedible because of a measuring error.

This lab was mainly playing around and experimenting with different techniques. Our group used all of the different tools and found different ways to use each one. I personally enjoyed using the crinkle cutter. It had many different uses seen on the plate below. Examples are the grass looking thing, the strawberries and the cucumbers. hopefully our group will use this for more garnishing in the future. Overall I really enjoyed this lab and i think everyone had a lot of fun.

In this lab we made different flavored butters. Our group made cinnamon, brown sugar butter and also a garlic, herb butter. Our group worked very well together. We made these combinations mostly by trial and error, we added different amounts of spices until it tasted good. I also really enjoyed the red kitchens butter, they made a chocolate butter which was really good. I personally don't love garlic so all of the butters containing it weren't my favorites, but i'm sure that they were delicious.

In this lab we flavored chicken and then cooked it two different ways. My group made herbal chicken, which had oregano and basil and olive oil and we pan fried and baked the chicken. I personally liked the pan fried chicken over the baked chicken that my group made. Another group whose chicken I really liked was the red kitchens, they made breaded chicken and it was very good. I don't like fish so unfortunately I didn't love the two groups who made it, but I'm sure it was delicious to those who do like fish. (The top is pan fried and the bottom is baked

Over the two snow days my family and I made a lot of food. While my brother, sister and Dad were outside shoveling , my mom and I made food for them. I made chocolate chip waffles for breakfast on Wednesday but my family ate them all before I could get a picture. Luckily I also made chocolate chip cookies. These cookies aren't hard to make but it was fun to bake with my little sister. Whenever I'm making food she always asks to help but usually I don't have time to sit down and watch her measure everything to make sure she gets it right. It was nice to not have to rush for once and get to enjoy the process of making food, not just eating it.

This was the St. Patrick's day lab and everything was so good. My group made mint truffles. Our dessert was basically an oreo truffle but instead of oreos we had mint cookies and used green dyed white chocolate. We decided on this recipe after seeing the ingredients and pooling our knowledge of what flavors tasted good together. Jack and I had made a similar recipe in baking and pastries, so it was nice to do a new version. We did hit one speed bump, the middle of the truffle was a little to frosting like, so we added powdered sugar when shaping them.

We also made sour cream and chives mashed potatoes, which also were delicious<del>.</del> In the beginning our group split up into two smaller groups, one for mashed potatoes and one for the chicken, but it kind of evolved into everyone doing what the other people needed Overall this lab turned out great.

In this lab we only had fifteen minutes to try to make a appetizer. My group used the ritz crackers as a base and mixed pesto and cream cheese. After that we topped it with sliced tomatoes and sprinkled cheese on top. Our group didn't really face many challenges, we pretty much all agreed in what to do and got to work. I think that our appetizer turned it very well.

It could be used for a fancy occasion or something laid back like a super bowl party. I think that our dip turned out really well. We did run into a little trouble because of the time constraint but we ended up finishing just in time.

In this lab my gorup tried to make chocolate chip cookie bowls filled with chocolate mousse. The idea was solid but in execution the cookies stuck to the muffin tins that we used. Though the cookies tasted deliscious it was impossible to salvage the intended bowl shape. We decided to take small tinfoil bowls and pipe the mousse in there and use the cookies as a topping. In the end we didn't have an edible plate but everything tasted amazing

In this lab we switched up the kitchens. I had been working with the same people for almost the entire year so it was different to see how other people came up with ideas. The main ingredient in this challenge was bisquick. My group was given dessert and we decided to go with a crepe and fill it with sweet cream cheese and strawberries and blueberries. I think that they turned out really well, not to say that we didn't mess up a few times. Overall I really enjoyed this lab and i am proud of what we got done.

We got classic tomate sauce. It wasn't necessarily a challenging sauce but it was good to learn how to do a basic sauce that I can build off of. Our sauce turned out really well, people were just eating bowls of sauce and when we had some left over and dipped bread in it.
