I remember the first time and the LAST time I went camping, it was a terrible experience. However, I do love exploring at the beach and in reasonable areas that aren't too high up north the mountains. I love swimming in the water and the sandy vibes the beach gives.At the beach, I mostly spend all my time with my friends. We would usually have a bonfire and make s'mores in the evening. I'm not really a nature person but I just love the experience I have with my friends and family. The feeling being able to bond with your friends and family is something I will cherish forever.

Jill noticed that Christopher was wielding a rifle (pg1) and had known that the weapon was not strong enough to kill animals (pg5). Jim was very concerned (pg5) for Christopher, and after offering him some resources before he went out to the wild, Christopher denied every offer. 

Analysis: Truly, I am extremely upset and afraid of what's going to happen next. Christopher seems to be very stubborn and does not want to back out from this journey. Even though we already find out Christopher doesn't make it, I'm curious to see what will happen next.

Analysis: Even though we already knew Chris was going to die, I'm still sad for his death. He was very young and I'm wondering what he could have done with his life instead of exploring. However, as long as he is happy I'm fully supporting his choices. I'm excited to find out his full journey in the next chapters.

Alex never really cared about his father's NASA (pg19) career and never enjoyed things being handed to him. We already know Alex loves the different experiences (pg23) he has encountered. Soon after, we're introduce to Wayne. Alex calls Wayne family (pg18) as if Wayne has been here for Alex his whole life. It is crazy to imagine he's left his home (pg18) back in Washington DC and had decided to meet and form new bonds with new people. 

Analysis: I'm glad Alex is meeting new people. Although he is, it makes me sad that he's abandoned his family. You can tell his family is very worried and upset he left without saying a single word. I empathize with his family and wish Alex had at least said something before he completely left. A letter possibly could've worked.

His car and possessions was soon found by rangers. The rangers used his car for an undercover drug bus. Chris continues his adventure and ends up hitchhiking (pg 31) during his trip. He traveled to many places in the West. Throughout his adventure Chris had met a few new people who provided him food and resources for a week. The people he had met were named Jan and Bob who were generous enough to be kind to him. Chris had received a ticket for hitchhiking, when he accidentally added his home address. Which sent the ticket back to his home. His parents soon received the ticket and had started to hire a private investigator group to search for him.

Analysis: I honestly feel the worry for Chris' parents. They are probably worried sick and want the investigator group to find Chris ASAP. I'm very shocked that Chris has made it this far in his trip. This book reminds me like he's running away from the police as he is trying to hide his true identity.

However, we soon find out that Chris decides to work at a local Mcdonald's. Chris even goes far enough to open a savings (pg39) account at a local bank (pg39). At Mcdonald's Chris had presented his full name (pg40) and his full Social Security Number (pg40) to his manager. Many of Chris' employees had found him weird and was not a normal human being.. They confronted him about him smelling bad and had offered him some soap. Knowing him, Chris does not like confrontation and decides to leave the scene. Soon after, Chris decides to reach out to Jan and Bob. He tells them to meet him at Bullhead City but decided to show up to Jan's trailer anyway. He ends up living with Jan and Bob for a little while and decided to work. After, Chris heads to Salton City to purchase supplies for his further adventure. Jan tries to force warm clothes onto him, but Jan soon funds out that Chris had hid the warm clothes under the seat, refusing the offer.

Analysis: You can tell Chris has met many people with positive intentions. Jan seems to really worry and care for Chris, but it is clear Chris does not need her help. I recently had a theory where, what if Chris had a psychological mental health disorder. Maybe this could cause him to act a certain way and not cause him to think straight. I could be overthinking it, but to me, Chris is no normal human being.

Ron is a very generous man who through a few (50) hardships. One of which was when his wife and child were killed (50) when he was travelling overseas due to a drunk driver (50). After Chris decided to leave to find a new job somewhere else, Chris sends a letter to Ron that he had been jumping trains, informing him he's been beaten and even threatened for doing so. Once Chris had been arrested, Ron and Chris decided to have a reunion, where Ron had filled Chris up with steak and lobster. During the story, Ron sees Chris as his child. Ron grows attached and even asks Chris if he's able to adopt (55) him. Obviously, Chris denies the offer and had pushed it to once he had reached Alaska, however we already know what the case is going to be. When Chris takes off again, we then find out that Ron had received another letter from Chris. Giving Ron some solid and straight forward advice. Stating and letting Ron know he needs to go out and put himself out there more. Otherwise, Ron will be stuck in his depressive state. 

Analysis: Truly, I pity Ron a lot. I feel very bad for him but the advice Chris gives Ron is very true. Travelling and doing things will get your minds off your thoughts and give you a chance to reflect on certain things. I don't seem to think the advice hurts anyone at all because at the end of the day Chris just wanted the best for Ron.

One of which during his trip (66) was that Chris was a virgin (66). Chris was never sexually active (65) and wanted to save himself for that special person and wanted to enjoy (65) on his trip instead of worrying about a loved one. In the end, we find out Chris writes his final letters to his friends and we already know Chris is not going to be coming back.

Analysis: This chapter seemed to be the most funny and laid-back chapter. Even though it was sad to see Chris write his last letters before passing away, I'm glad he had a great time during his trip. I'm sure him writing his letters were extremely emotional, but I guess he made the most of his life.

Who (72) decides to explore Alaska, a very similar mission that Chris is going on. Rossellini was a wealthy and intelligent person. He had participated in yoga, became an expert (73) in martial arts and had even maintained (73) an above and beyond grade-point average GPA in high-school and college. You can describe him as the perfect student everyone admired and wanted to be. Sadly, we find out Rossellini had a sad fate, a fate where he ended up committing suicide. The next person we hear from is Waterman. Waterman is a very determined man who decides to run for president, in which case he did not win. Although he didn't win, he wanted to run for president to end hunger and make sure no one dies from it. After this crazy occasion, Waterman decides to head to Alaska (just like Chris), to climb mountains, in which he was never heard from again. Lastly, we have Carl. Carl a sad and painful death. Carl heads into the wild, but ends up freezing and starts starving in the fall. As a plane passes by, Carl fails to signal he's in trouble, making the plane disregard him. Carl decides he can't suffer any longer and decides to shoot himself.

Analysis: This chapter was the most disturbing and upsetting chapter to me. There was too much death and this chapter had triggered a lot of issues for me. I didn't like how gruesome some of the deaths were and a part of me wish I wasn't obligated to read this book. I'm full of sorrow and extremely upset, as these people just wanted to go through with this passions, but had a sad ending. I'm sure this book doesn't get any happier than this.

More so, we hear from a man named Everett Russes. We find out he has many similarities between (89) him and Alex. In many ways, Russes headed out in the wild with very low supplies. He had low supplies and had no money (90). It is crazy to know that Russes had romanticized his adventures much more than Alex had. During his adventures, he never found someone as passionate as him when venturing out in the wild. Too bad he wasn't able to meet Alex, as they would've been best friends. Russes, just like Alex, had also decided to change his name (93). After, we find out that Russes had mysteriously (89) disappeared (89). Nobody knew about his whereabouts (89) but a lot of people were accused of murdering him, people still don't know what happening to him today. He was never found and there are many theories on his disappearance. 

Analysis: Honestly, this chapter seems to interest me the most. Me, I love unsolved mysteries and usually watch unsolved documentaries all the time. I love how this chapter Russes had many similarities between Alex and it kind of makes me sad they never met each other. Since Russes was never found, it makes me more intrigued and interested to dive deeper into the story.

Coincidentally (100), Jim believes he knows the identity of the body. He calls the police (100), and struggles to claim he is not prank calling. The police don't believe him at first, but Jill claims that Chris is from South Dakota, which was a lie Chris had told him. Since it was a lie, the police was at a dead-end and didn't know what to do. Wayne then heard the news on the radio and had contacted the police to provide Chris's social security number (100) which finally led the police agencies (101) to a conclusion. 

Analysis: This chapter was very short, but I'm glad this chapter gave us how Chris' body was found. It is so crazy to me that both Wayne and Jim had heard about Chris.  I'm pretty sure Jim feels very betrayed after finding out what Chris told him was a lie. It is probably hard to tell Chris' family that he is dead as well, overall, a sad chapter.

Both of them have extreme talent (111) who are very determined to get things done. After high school, Chris didn't want to go to college 114), however his parents said if he wanted to make a difference he needed to go to college. Which was something Chris decided to do. Even though we see the perfect life of Chris' family, they put all their drama under the rug and try to keep a professional (103) matter. 

Analysis: You can honestly see how tense the family is. We can tell that there is a lot of passive aggressiveness towards each other and we notice that Chris even as an adult, does not even get a choice to do what he wants. I can honestly relate to this chapter a lot, as my family can be just as toxic. Hopefully all goes well for Chris.

Chris, is in complete rage (123) and infuriated (120) with his father. Chris was unable to forgive his father and decided to shut him out. Chris definitely had many thoughts about his father, one being a hypocrite (122) and now doesn't even feel like he knows his father. Overtime, Chris became more cold and became a lot more political. After graduating college, Chris had returned all the money given by his parents for law school and decided to got up and head into the wild. 

Analysis: I'm honestly in shock with everything that happened. This chapter was definitely a disaster. I can now see why Chris had decided to leave his home. Even though his family was successful with money, his family didn't ever make him happy. Hopefully his family gets it together.

One day, Carine's husband had confirmed (131) that her brother Chris had passed away. Carine was in complete shock and did not know how to react to the news. During her grieving process, she completely lost her appetite (132) and lost 10 pounds. There was not much she could do but accept that her brother was now gone. 

Analysis: This chapter makes me sad. You can tell Carine definitely loved and cared for her brother so much. I bet she had missed him for so long when he decided to run away and when Chris was truly gone it had just hit hard for her. Maybe she was hoping he would come back one day to visit her, but I guess that was not the outcome she anticipated.

Later on, Krakauer tells us about his adventure (133) to Alaska. During his trip, he meets a very nice woman named Kai. Described by Krakauer as a woman (137) who was easy to talk to and very outgoing. Kai was a very nice woman who had offered Krakauer for dinner at her house and to even stay over, in which Krakauer had accepted. When laying down with his sleeping bag on her floor, he started reminiscing and a part of him wish he was in a relationship as Kai's presence and company (137) made Krakauer feel safe, and made him have this love feeling type of ache. Soon after, our wonderful author decides to hit to Alaska, where it was a very hard trip to begin with. He didn't have a helicopter, but had people drive him to the edge to the Devil's Thumb. Where he climbed and had almost fallen into crevasses (138). Since the conditions were awful, Krakauer had no other option but to back down and camp. He was afraid he wouldn't have enough resources and food by the plane requested. Luckily, the plane had dropped him the food and resources he needed. In the morning, he decides to climb the mountain again in more ideal weather, but soon decides to climb back down as he fails to find any more footholds. 

Analysis: Honestly wow! I think this is the most true and scariest story of the book. This is probably because it truly is about the author. It inspires me that he went out of his comfort zone to climb the Devil's Thumb himself, I don't think I could ever do that. I can imagine he was extremely scared camping out as he probably almost would've starved to death. Truly inspiring.

Like Chris, Krakauer also had daddy issues. There were many shady things that Krakauer's father has done, however, he does not seem to address what it is. Throughout Krakauer's life, his father had always had expectations (148) for his son. One of which, was to have Krakauer enter Harvard Medical School (150). Unfortunately, many of us want to live our own lives and make our own decisions, not live our life for our parents. Krakauer did not want to go to medical school, but his father told him he would cause much misfortune (148) if he had not. Of course, Krakauer did have some thoughts where he felt like a failure (148), but in the end he realized that he's living his own life, and it's his own choice if he wants to go to medical school or not. Soon after, Krakauer's dad had become ill. His father soon became a drug addict and his behavior (149) was absolutely frightening. His father had even attempted suicide in front of his own son, which was ridiculously (146) traumatizing. Which practically led his father to a mental hospital, where he was bound to rails. To escape all this, Krakauer goes back to the Devil's Thumb and climbs it once more. 

Analysis: This chapter is definitely sad. Seeing our author not have the perfect relationship with his dad makes this book seem a little more real and genuine. I wish his father knew the harm he was doing to his son and realizes what he is doing wrong, but I guess there's not much he can do because he's genuinely sick. Literally.

During his trip with Stuckey, Chris had apparently had small talk with Stuckey. Talking about his family and showed Stuckey how he was going to improvise (163) heading into the wilderness (165). Soon after, Chris heads to a university to purchase an info book about edible plants, and also purchasing a weapon (a gun) for preparations. After being dropped off by Gallien, Chris shoots a moose. Which ended up not working too great as Chris did not know how to preserve it. Later on, Chris tries to move back to his normal life, but fails to when the snow had made his passages impossible to cross. 

Analysis: It seems like Chris really wanted to head back into a normal life but failed to. I wonder if he had ever regret going into the wild and it still shocks me that people think Chris tried to kill himself like he was on a suicide mission. That's crazy!

During this chapter, we discover there were many ways to cross the river(173). Known as the Teklanika River. The river has very dangerous currents which could make it difficult to cross. If Chris had a map (174) he would've known there was a basket to step in to cross the river. Krakauer described the basket to be very claustrophobic (176) and he had felt in danger for a second crossing the river with the basket. However, the basket is a very safe and easy ride (175) instead of walking through it. Not having a map was a very fatal mistake. Krakauer and his friends then head back to the bus where Chris had passed. Where they had claimed the bus gave them a weird and sad feeling. The men end up sleeping outside of the bus and in the end, had no hard feelings for Chris but rather honored him for taking on his quest. 

Analysis: This chapter irritates the heck out of me because Chris made a careless mistake for not taking a map. Even though he was stubborn and wanted to do things on his own, a map wouldn't have hurt if it was an emergency. His story definitely influenced others to be much more careful and learn survival techniques in case a situation like this were to occur. However, people should not shame Chris for what happened, it probably was a blessing in disguise to teach us all a lesson.

Chris had wrote in his journal that he felt weak and was close to being dead (189). Chris had went out to hunt, but overtime he started getting weaker and weaker due to starvation (198). The main cause that many people think is true how Chris had passed was that he had consumed moldy potato seeds that may have poisoned (193) him. Chris' body mass wasn't adequate (188) which caused his immune system to shut down as his body was not strong enough to fight out the toxins like a normal person would. The author also said that Chris could have started a forest fire, but it wouldn't have probably worked as planes don't fly over there as much.

Analysis: This chapter is so sad. I feel so bad for the way Chris had passed because it seemed like such a painful death. He was probably alone and scared to be out in the wild. Chris was also probably trying his hardest to stay alive but his body started to give up on him. I'm sure Chris is finally at peace now.

I'm sure Krakauer was trying his best to be understanding and comforting (203) to Chris' parents. Walt and Billie were going to head into the wild by traveling the Stampede trail Chris had taken, however they thought it would be a little dangerous and take awhile so they had decided to take a helicopter (201). When they reach at the bus, Chris' parents notice some of Chris' belongings still inside the bus. Analysis: I'm glad Walt and Billie got the closure they deserved. Even though the family was chaotic, no parent ever has to go through with the death of their young son who had a bright future ahead of him. Maybe his death had taught the parents a valuable lesson and if Chris wasn't treated poorly he maybe never would've ran away. It is what it is, RIP Chris.

Many people thought he had died of starvation (P1) and even poisoned. At first, Krakauer thought Chris had been poisoned and died from eating potato (P4) seeds. Which he was partly correct, but he was incorrect from the type of neutrotoxic (P6) Chris had consumed. We find out that the toxin was L-canavanine and not beta-ODAP. The compound (P7) is similar to an amino acid and it confuses the body, making the body think those nutrients are good. The seeds that Chris had consumed wasn't toxic, but overtime the seeds become toxic throughout the season, which Chris did not know about. At least we found the cause of death.

Analysis: I'm so glad we found the cause of death for Chris. Many people had many debates and arguments on his true cause of death. I guess our author was the closest. What can I say though? Jon is totally obsessed with Chris, kinda crazy that Jon probably would have never known about Chris if Chris had not decided to venture out into the wild.

I've always lived in a lower-income household and I don't want to live life in vein where I have to worry that I won't be able to pay for my bills. Living with a single-parent, my mom works really hard and it makes me sad she pushes herself just for my brother and I. It may take a lot of time to get where I need to be but I also want to be able to repay my Mom for the hard work she's been through to make sure my brother and I are happy. When I'm financially free, I'm able do more things in my life and make the most out of it instead of just working. I'm able to explore myself and find further passions I may be interested in.

Not only do I want to be a successful businessman, I also dream of becoming a successful singer. When I was little I was always singing. To be honest, I never knew I was good at singing until some of my family members and people genuinely told me I have a good voice. At home, I have my own ukulele that I play at home. I taught myself how to play the ukulele and sang songs while playing the ukulele. Later on, I want to start learning how to play the guitar as it would suit my voice a lot more. I'm not the best singer in the world and I have things I can do to improve. I can still sing and hit notes but a vocal coach or more practice wouldn't hurt either. This would benefit me and help me control my voice much more. Every time I sing, I'm always drawn into euphoria and I'm so into singing in the moment, I don't realize how much time passes by. Singing fills me with so much emotion. I'm open to improve everyday. Later in the future, I want to plan on moving to LA to pursue a music career. Probably not a full time career, but a side hustle where I can sing for fun and if it becomes successful,  I can decide from there.

Chris had made many interesting choices. There's many things I can relate to with Chris. My family isn't perfect, just like his. However, the way he had decided to deal with his family issues was definitely unhealthy and dangerous. One of which was when he decided to ignore his father. I know he was angry but he should have chosen a healthier approach like confront his dad and talk to him about it. I also thought it was super messed up to abandon his family, especially his sister. He left her with crazy parents and I can imagine the pain she had felt not knowing where her brother could possibly be. However, Chris is not all bad in the story. He's made some good choices such as giving all his money to charity. Which could have impacted those charities heavily. Even though he donated some charity, the people he met along the way, he's done dirty. He usually decides to cut off all the people he's met along the way. When in reality, those people were just trying to care for him and give Chris an open hand. I don't think Chris was a terrible person, but there were definitely some things he could have worked on.
