In one of my favorite songs in Hamilton, one of the cabinet battles, Hamilton says to jefferson,
"you think I'm frightened of you man? We almost died in a trench! While you were off getting hot with the french!" 
The big mistake here is one word, trench. Trench warfare did not start until around 1914, or the civil war.
