1. Do you think CRM is useful? Yes/ No
- Yes

2a. If Yes, elaborate on how would you use CRM in your conduct of training.
- CRM is useful to me as I will be able to teach my trainees proper reactions in crisis. With me being able to implement CRM, it makes confident that my trainees would be able to react accordingly in times of crisis.

How I would use CRM, I will do a quick TTX everytime before I go on board the vehicle for driving test, I will give situations such as "loss of brake", "loss of Comms", "loss of steering". I will then check and validate the trainees reaction, if they execute the wrong or improper actions I would guide them and reemphasize the correct drills. This gives me a buffer and acts as a last bound safety drill refresher before me commence with our outfield driving test.

CPT Khng JJ

1) depends. I have to state upfront that I'm not particularly familiar with CRM. But from the understanding I gathered thus far, in order for CRM to be effective, every single soldier needs to believe in it. The problem or/and challenge is to convince how effective CRM could be and allowing every soldier believe in it. If I interprete it correctly, CRM enpowers soldiers at every level to be able to speak up confidently if there is any doubt. In order CRM to be effective, all soldiers must believe in what they do and have the right mental model and motivation in training. This is crucial as it will then adds as a fail safe model for individual crew member to react accordingly to any suspected unsafe practices.

2) As mentioned, I believe I still do not fully understand the tools available to enhance training via CRM at this point of time.
I would implement it by implementing and advocating on these the following point. Increase in safety culture by advocating an open sharing culture without any punishment for minor incidents.

Having safety pauses for every slight safety infringement we have. For e.g. Not wearing helmet when mounting veh. No matter how minor one feels the breach is, it is a driving point to ensure that the matter is address at the moment and can be called by anyone. However, conducting structure and unit must be able to withstand the amount of pauses and training time that would be potentially straining in due to the calling of the safety pauses, and be agreeable in this. Once there is a culture and habit in doing it, everyone will be more aware and responsible of their own safety.

Jialin

1. Yes, it is.

2. Ideally, CRM should be conducted as practical lessons. But at the current state, theory lessons suffice.

Firstly, CRM should be trained at commanders-level and conducted with the end goal of enhancing commanders’ Command and Control during adverse situations. A table of possible scenarios must be pre-identified and set for the CRM training to be effective.

Depending on the type of training, CRM can be used to introduce/ train/ remind participants of the possible unfavourable scenarios to enhance crew-level anticipation I.e. fire breakout in vehicle’s engine compartment in the middle of a tank battle.

The ideal CRM outcome = commanders able to regain control of his crew in ops. Therefore, commanders must also understand the snapshot of his crew to achieve effective CRM I.e. crew’s proficiency and psychology.

Hence, to cover a large scale training that is CRM, theory lesson works better - in the form of lecture, briefing note or reminders.
