Around 1900 athletes from more than 190 countries will compete at the Tokyo Olympic Games when the athletics programme begins on 30 July 2021.

They all play in Serie A.

Kerala Rain News Today Latest Updates: Heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, lashed several parts of Kerala on Thursday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in 8 districts–Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur.

Meanwhile, six districts–Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kasaragod–have been put on yellow alert predicting isolated heavy rainfall. The IMD statement advised fishermen not to venture into the sea in the state as squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kph is likely to prevail over the Kerala coast today.

Keeping in mind last week’s devastating landslides in Idukki and Kottayam districts, the Kerala government, for the first time, has started evacuating people residing in landslide-prone areas in the eastern hills of the state. The district administrations have also readied fishermen with boats to evacuate people from low-lying areas.

Muzaffarnagar: Water supply to Delhi, Noida and Agra is likely to get affected due to maintenance work of the Ganga canal here which was closed on Friday, an official of the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department said.

According to Upendra Kumar, superintending engineer of UP Irrigation Department, the canal will remain closed till November 5 for maintenance work, affecting water supply in the national capital and Uttar Pradesh.

SALEM: The water level in the Mettur dam has crossed 100-feet benchmark for the first time this year on Sunday.

“The dam reached the benchmark at 11.10am on Sunday for the 67th time since it was opened in 1934,” said a PWD official.

The inflow was 28,650 cusecs, while the 550 cusecs of water was being discharged in the dam’s east and west bank canals for irrigation need in Salem, Namakkal and Erode districts, besides 100 cusecs for the delta districts.

In 2020, the water level in the dam had reached the 100- feet mark four times including on September 25, October 13, October 24 and November 28. After that, the water level in the dam was maintained above 100ft until March 27 this year. 

So, this is the first time the water level has crossed 100ft again. 

Officials said the dam could reach its full capacity of 120ft in a couple of weeks, if rain continues in the catchment areas in Karnataka and in the river pathways.
