Events that occurred that were related to religion was the Protestant reformation, although the movie wasn't about the protestant reformation, there were aspects of that Reformation do occur in the background. Henry's decision to go his own way and establish the Church of England.

Beliefs
- The roman catholic believed in marriage for life
- Witchcraft means the practice of, and belief in, magical skills and abilities that are able to be exercised individually, by designated social groups, or by persons with the necessary esoteric secret knowledge
Fact: Giving birth to a deformed baby would have been seen as evidence of sexual sin or witchcraft.

- Excommunicate (To excommunicate would mean to expel someone from the church; unchurch.)
During the 16th century when Henry VIII was king of England it was believed that if someone were to be excommunicated, they could not go to heaven hence the catholic church was powerful as they controlled people by fear.

Events that occurred
-would not annul the marriage, therefore caused the breaking of the power of the Catholic Church in England 
- the break between the Church of England and Rome took place and the Church of England was brought under the King's control
-Anne Boleyn provided the occasion for Henry VIII to annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragon and declare his independence from the Holy See.

Sumptuary Clothing Laws
The Elizabethan Sumptuary Clothing Laws were used to control behaviour and to ensure that a specific class structure was maintained. English Sumptuary Laws governing the clothing that Elizabethans wore were well known by all of the English people. The penalties for violating Sumptuary Laws could be harsh - fines, the loss of property, title and even life.

Elizabethan Upper Class Fashion
The new and exciting ideas of the Renaissance including an increased interest in science and mathematics influenced upper class fashion. The clothes worn during this era were influenced by geometric shapes rather than the natural shape of the body.

2) Construction structure-Values
First Renaissance style architecture in England - Hampton Court
The Gothic style of architecture moved into the Renaissance style of architecture. And the first Renaissance style architecture in England was Hampton Court. Hampton Court was built by Cardinal Wolsey between 1514 and 1528. The style had shifted from the pointed, ornate Gothic style to the plainer Renaissance style which was symmetrical. The symmetry was displayed in both the architecture and the gardens.

Elizabethan Architecture Upper Class Houses and Mansions
Upper Class houses of the wealthy followed a similar renaissance style of Elizabethan architecture. Stone and expensive bricks were used for durability and appearance ( as opposed to the timber and wattle of Lower Class houses).
