The purpose of this research is to prepare you to make and perfect your own straw rockets.

Research to answer the following questions using the student instructions for straw rockets posted to the right.

1. What will the straw rockets be made of?
2. What choices do you have to make while constructing your rockets?
3. From reading the instructions, what are some important details you need to be precise and accurate with?

Cite sources for the next set of questions:

4. What kinds of rockets exist in the real world? List FIVE examples. Missiles are actually more appropriate for this assignment so searching for missile types will result in better results for your rockets later. Note how many fins the have, their shape and about how big the fins are compared to the size of the rockets. You will use this research to answer the following questions. Images are okay for this part, but you need to note the details you see in each below each picture. I will give you an example of this.

5. According to what you found, what kinds of wings/fins are designed for long rockets? short rockets?

6. How do you think the number of fins affect your rocket as it flies? try to find research to support your answer.

7. Create 4 different rocket designs. Be sure to include notations for different lengths, fin size, fin shape, fin number, and nose cone designs. Don't make it complicated. Use ideas you have found in your real world examples.
