Scholars Success Circle is a group centering on first-generation students. The group will help first-generation students with overcoming any hardships with their college courses. This group will help the students improve their grades in their academic courses. This group will give first-generation students access to a supportive group. The group will give students access to resources and tools to help them improve academically. The Scholar's Success Circle will give students the tools and resources to help them succeed during their college experience. The Success Scholars Circle will help the students overcome challenges within a supportive community.

Scholar's Success Circle

I would create flyers to post on campus with information about the Scholar's Success Circle group.

I would advertise the group via the school email so it can reach all students on campus.

I would also participate in daily announcements and set up a booth to promote the group.

The screening process

The screening process will begin by identifying the students that are considered first-generation students.

The students will be asked a series of questions about their background. This will help determine if the student is a first-generation student. The students will be screened individually. The students will complete a questionnaire about their academic challenges. This will help me determine if the student is willing to participate in the group to help then overcome academic challenges.

Informed Consent

The students participating in the Success Scholar's Circle are 18 and over. Therefore, the students can give their consent without the consent of a parent.

Ground Rules

Establishing clear guidelines that members endorse. Modeling behavior you wish to establish as normative, e.g., active listening. Deepening focus through the use of structured activities and other interventions such as reflection of feeling, personalization, imagined dialogues, music, readings, using rounds, use of the arts, etc; Removing members who harm the group or themselves by their behavior.

These ground rules will be utilized within the group to create a safe and supportive community for the students. The students should all remain respectful to all group members or they will not have the opportunity to participate in further group meetings.

Stage 1

The students and I will begin each session with an icebreaker. This can help the students to become more comfortable with one another. Also, this can help the students become more comfortable with me. This activity can help create an open and safe environment for the students. This can lead them to become more comfortable with participating in the group and being vocal throughout the group session. The group norms will be established on the first day of group counseling. I will give the students my expectations of how the group session will go. I will discuss the topic of confidentiality with the group. This will help the students understand what information can remain confidential and also inform them that some information may not remain confidential.

Stage 2

The group members will engage in group activities to help garner trust among the group. The utilization of group activities will help the students understand how to work with others. Each week I will sit down with each group member to discuss their progress in the group.

Stage 3

The group closure will consist of an overview of the topics that were discussed. Each group member will have the opportunity to give feedback about the topics that were discussed. The members will have the opportunity to discuss their progression and the things that they have learned from the group counseling session. We will discuss how the students can stay connected. Also, we will discuss how the students can remain in contact with me.

Leadership Style

I would utilize the participative leadership style. The group members participate by giving their input along with the counselor (Cherry, 2023). This leadership style will allow the students to discuss the similarities and differences among the group members. The group members will give feedback to each other. This creates an open and supportive community for the first-generation students.

The Scholar's Success Circle group members will demonstrate Universality. The group members come from similar backgrounds of being the first in their families to go to college. This will give the students a sense of not feeling alone due to being first-generation students. The group may possess the altruism fator as well. They will learn how to overcome challenges by helping others and not being stuck on their problems or challenges.

Screening
