Hurricane Katrina starts to slow down to a category 4 hurricane, it makes landfall at 6:00 AM, and the eye moves just east of New Orleans, but the city is not spared. New Orleans sits below sea level surrounded by lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi river. High mud walls called levies keep the water in the bay, but by 8:00 AM there are reports that a levy was broken, and levies in three locations are breached. Now 80% of the city was flooded, and some neighborhoods are now submerged under 20 feet of water.
