Self-Growth This Semester

My biggest areas of growth this semester were definitely generosity and empathy. At the beginning of the semester, I already considered myself a nice person, but that is about it. I rarely ever did anything to help somebody that was less fortunate than I was. Fire in the Ashes really opened my eyes to see that many people are just born into unfortunate situations, and they have to try to make the most of them. After reading and discussing Fire in the Ashes in class, I noticed that I would reflect about it a lot. Now I understand the many problems poor and homeless people go through, so I empathize and make a generous donation whenever I see somebody that really needs it.

Themes of the Three Books

All of the books we read in class this semester have many incredible themes. In Tattoos on the Heart, slow work stood out to me the most because those people really had to put in the work to change themselves, and it eventually came with time. In Fire in the Ashes, perseverance was definitely the theme I kept seeing because those people would get knocked down to the lowest points of their lives, but they always got through it with the hope they had. In Living Buddha, Living Christ, spirituality was the theme seen constantly because it was always mentioned as the key to a happy life.

Book that Resonated Most

Fire in the Ashes was definitely the book that resonated with me the most. Throughout the book, many people that seemed to have no future success actually end up turning their lives around. This is important and inspirational to me because if these people can make something out of all these unfortunate life events, then I am capable of success as well. This book left a "tattoo on my heart" because it really made me realize that perseverance and hope can go a long way.

Reflection and Mindfulness

At the beginning of the semester, I had already had a very good idea of my reflection and mindfulness abilities. As the semester developed though, I feel like I took it to the next level thanks to the activities we did in class. It helped me experience it better and showed its benefits. I think that it is very important to live mindfully and reflectively because you just get to experience life much better. You start finding out what you actually enjoy a lot and what you do not. It is very helpful and I have definitely noticed it. I think that there is a great benefit to enacting this in my own life, so that will always encourage me to be reflective and mindful.

Growth Plan for the Future

Moving forward, I want to reflect and develop my happiness. I want to develop my happiness because it is debatably the most important aspect of our lives. Being happy is just always a great feeling, so why not always be in the best mood possible. I plan on developing my happiness by always staying positive and always looking at the positive side for the future. Also, I think that recognizing your achievements is very important, and it is exciting because you know more is on the way. Life is exciting, so taking advantage of it feels good.

I am glad you found the reflective/mindfulness writing experiences this semester to be positive for you adn your personal growth! I also am glad you want to continue to be a happy and upbeat person who not only cares about himself but about others as well! Your have begun to establish a foundation that will be a strong and postiive one to build your personal, academic and professional life upon...I have no doubt you will be a successful person in whatever you do!
The only point on your Padlet I would have liked to see elaborated a bit more on was in #2 Themes...your examples were general...I would have liked to have them be a bit more specific, e.g. a particular person and try to stay away from using "you"...better is using "one" or "a person." Other than these, a very well done assignment!! +18/20 A-
