This law states that one can not be excluded or discriminated against because of a disability. The law requires that schools must make "reasonable accommodations" for all students viewed as having a disability. This was the beginning of making assistive technology available for children with disabilities in public schools.

Federal Disabilities. (n.d.). Google Sites. Retrieved June 15, 2021, from https://sites.google.com/site/federaldisabilities/504

I feel this law helped benefit individuals with disabilities by allowing them to take part in public education programs with support provided. This allowed some accommodations to be made for students with disabilities, so they could be included in the learning environment.

After learning about the laws that helped pave the way for students with disabilities, I can see where schools can experience some barriers to implementing these laws to give students with disabilities equal access to public schools.
A lack of resources and the time it takes to get those resources can be a big barrier. When working with the government, resources and funding for those resources often take time. This can cause a delay for students being able to participate or be included in certain activities.
