The Nabateans which are located in northern Arabia and the southern Levant became wealthy and powerful by controlling trade routes through cities like Haluza, Mamshit, Avdat, and Shivta. These cities thrived because they were part of the Incense Route, which connected the Arabian Peninsula to the Mediterranean. The Nabateans made a lot of money trading items like frankincense and myrrh, which were really desired by the Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians. They also built advanced water systems to farm in the desert, which helped their cities grow and stay strong. Their control over the trade route made them more prosperous and left a lasting mark on the region through their cities.

Some people were hurt by the trade along the Incense Route. Local people sometimes lost their jobs because traders took over. Also, there were fights and wars over control of the trade routes, which made life tough for many people. Some got rich and others had problems and trouble because of the trading and conflicts. -Maya J.

Many greedy settlements demanded costly taxes from caravans that passed by, decreasing the use of the trade coming through the desert. This had slowly created the use of the desert to be used for more agriculture than trade.

-By Emina K.
