They both similar because they are both "protesting" what they believe. For example, Tessie says when she is about to get killed is "It isn't fair, it isn't right!" and Harrison protests that he doesn't want to live with these handicapes any more by saying "Even as I stand here, crippled, hobbled, sickened- I am a greater ruler than any man who ever lived." If you read through, you can adviously tell that they are fighting back against what they think is wrong.

Vonnegut put the ballet because it is more relaxing to watch than either a football game, or a basketball game. Allowing George and Hazel to feel relaxed and realizing that they will not remember a football game or a basketball game if they were to watch those type of action packed videos. " George was toying with the vague notion that maybe dancers shouldn't be handicapped. But he didn't get very far with it before another noise in his ear radio scattered his thoughts". This is key due to the noises running through is head he cant remember what he was think about and that why they did not have any important games on otherwise they would forget.

This society does not represent an illusion of utopia because no one is allowed to be themselves. "The transmitter would send out some sharp noise to keep people like George from taking unfair advantage of their brains". This is just showing how no one has the ability to be them. However, the people in the society feel like it is a good thing. For example when a news announcer tried to speak but couldn't Hazel said "That's the big thing. He tried to do the best he could with what God gave him". This is showing how Hazel is ok with the fact that no one is better than anyone else so it is ok to mess up.

Vonnegut chooses ballet for the tv because ballet represents beauty and gracefulness and to really show how messed up their society is with all of the handicaps, they want to contrast one of the most delicate sports and show that they even too have to wear handicaps. This quote shows how the ballerinas were treated, "They were burdened with sashweights and bags of birdshot, and their faces were masked, so that no one, seeing a free and graceful gesture or a pretty face."

Harrison Bergeron is the dystopian protagonist because he does not like and questions the handicap system. He believes that the system currently is wrong and society should not be living the way that they are right now. When the author writes, "Harrison plucked the mental handicap from her ear, snapped off her physical handicaps with marvelous delicacy." This shows that Harrison is trying to help the people watching T.V recognize that handicaps are wrong, which is a characteristic of a dystopian protagonist.

Alex Swiezynski- This society represents an "illusion of utopia" in many ways expressed throughout the story. For one, the writer uses the terms equality and fair to show how citizens believe the society functions. Another example about how citizens feel about the society is on page 12 when an announcer was talking, the text uses the word "unfair" to describe her voice and says "...and she began again, making her voice absolutely uncompetitive." like having a nice voice is unequal.

In the story, Vonnegut is trying to say that conformity is not what everyone thinks it is. People want everyone to be completely equal, but by writing this story, Vonnegut shows that being 100% equal is not desirable. In the story it says, "And George, while his intelligence was way above normal, had a little mental handicap radio in his ear. He was required by law to wear it at all times". This quote suggests that having a handicap is not desirable and I think that is what Vonnegut was trying to show throughout his story.

Also the fact that is very dehumanized, perhaps not like in the lottery, but in a different way. Like the 300 pound bags around peoples necks, which could potentially cause permanent damage to the esophagus and windpipe.

Harrison Bergeron is a dystopian protagonist because he tries to not have the society turn into a brainwashed society and not allow them to struggle to get through life. Harrison wants people to become successful and not suffer and struggle through there life with handicaps that make there life harder for them. "I am the Emperor!" cried Harrison "Do you hear? I am the Emperor! Everybody must do what I say at once!" This is relevant because he wants the society to be normal and allow the society to be who they are and not let there differences affect them.

I believe that they choose to use the ballet scene instead of something like football or soccer because ballerinas are graceful, light, and beautiful even though they have their masks and handicapes on. It shows them how beautiful the world can be and make the characters feel happy and graceful. Say they choose something else, then it would be totally different because the characters could feel stressed instead. This makes the story seem like it is going well and there will be a good ending. In a way the they choose ballet to mask what will happen to those characters. You never saw it coming because of where they are and how they are dancing gracefully and effortlessly.

Many people like Hazel simply believe that their society is perfect because everyone is equal due to the handicaps the government requires everyone to wear. However, in reality the entire system is not fair. People should be able to be enjoy a sport like ballet and not have to be weighted down to be able to dance like everyone else.
