The elders are desperately searching for the earth kingdom avatar, however many years have passed since the last waterbender avatar has passed away. In desperation the elders chose an avatar off of superstition instead of taking the proper time to find the correct avatar. This leads to many years of training an earthbender that is not the avatar leading to conflict and confusion in the four nations. With the real avatar Kyoshi struggling to find her way in the world conflicts among the four nations grow more intense. Avatar Kyoshi flees the earth kingdom to begin her quest with a group of misfits. It is only among this group that she begins to find her way.

This story constantly takes the idea of destiny and turns it inside out. Showing the reader that anyone from any background can achieve greatness. This story is about a street kid that was destine to be nothing more than a low level worker and proves that just because society tells you that you are nothing doesn't mean you have to listen. It shows the reader that you can carve your own path and pull others up along the way. It also helps paint the picture to the reader that thinking outside the box can be a great thing.
