Connection:
Cold war are basically a fight against two most popular ideology- the communist and democracy. In my opinion, communism is actually not bad for the situation of where the Soviet union is going because the government needs to control the people anyways. Use China as an example, China actually has a greater improvement in these few decades in the power of communism. At last everyone is equally rich and people weren't unhappy about the whole new communist thing. In contrast, democracy can lead to lots of corruptions due to too much freedom and I would say it is unsustainable.

Challenge:
America is afraid of communism because they fear that one day countries that uses communism would rule and America would be doomed.

Concept:
The Soviet union influenced North Korea by Communism. And the use of the nuclear bomb causes lot of problems now.

Changes:
I just think that communism was not that bad at that time for the Soviet Union.

1. In a competing market, most companies would rather eliminate the competition than step up their own product. They would own the market, and thus not need nor want to innovate in any way since that would cost money.
2. If you really think about it, the idea of Communism isn't That bad. If it was implemented properly and it made everyone reasonably well-off, it could be seen as desirable. However, that kind of idea simply can't be made into a reality because of the logistics of it.
3. Trying to jump in to a monopolized market will likely end in either you selling your idea off, or you being forced to cancel it.
4. I feel that I should be more weary, as even your allies of equal stature don't want to see you succeed, as they want that success for themselves.

Connections
Conspiracy theories suggest that the Canadian government cancelled the Avro Arrow project due to US influence. The US government supposedly did not want to be outclassed by the Canadians, and wanted Canada to be reliant on the US for aircraft. If the theories are true, than the situation then, is very similar to now, with the US trying to hold power over Canada.

Challenge
Prime Minister Diefenbaker claimed that the project was cancelled because it was too expensive, and that we no longer needed anti bomber aircraft, however I disagree with that, because if the project had not been cancelled, Canada would have had one of the most powerful airforces in the world.

Concepts
After learning about the Avro Arrow project, it strengthened the concept that once you start something, you really have to finish it. Canada would have become much stronger had they only just finished the Avro Arrow Project. As well, another idea I think is worth holding onto is that the US has always been trying to influence us, and likely always will.

Changes
There was a change in attitude in the Canadian government at the time. The Liberal government had been adamant on strengthening Canada's air force, to make Canada a stronger player on the world stage, however when it switched hands to a Conservative government, they abandoned all of that, and instead bowed down to the US.

Connections: As shown by the Cold War, war can suddenly change due to inventions. The whole outcome of the cold war was changed by the United States when introducing the “Manhattan Project”. The Soviet Union president got worried to lose the upper hand and lose control since war doesn't play with the old rules anymore.
Challenge: With every war the technology and way to fight changes. In the first war it was about weapons like guns. In the WW2, gas and bombs and tanks were added. In the Cold war, nuclear weapons “joined”. The next war would have unpredictable dimensions of destructions due to technological revolutions and our system that relies on computers.
Concepts: New concepts and inventions will always be made. It is difficulty as the enemy side to know its effects completely. This is why it’s important to take the enemies ability to use them by threatening back with something bigger. (The keyword is fear)
Changes: Always keep up with your enemy and try to get one step ahead. The expression "...keep your enemies closer" applies. When you know your enemy, you gain a lot of power. This is why spies were a big thing back then.

1. The cold war is the united states basically acting out of fear. the USA also always wanted to be the strongest one, and able to hold power over other countries.
2. What made them not use the bombs this time around? Why wasn't this the case in wars in the past?
3. No matter how tense things get, you need to be the bigger man, and realize that using weapons of mass destruction will not only ruin your reputation, but will have negative impacts for the whole world.
4. War is possible to avoid, and we should only use war as a last resort.

Connection: I think the connection between NATO and war is that the NATO tries to keep the peace that we have at the time and make it consistent, but I also think that there is more to the NATO then just the things they tell people.

Challenges: I think that the NATO can also help people with just kinda stopping the fear and panic that could break out when there would be a war because when we look back war always caused panic and fear.

Concept: I think it is really important that we as the people have an eye on what for example the NATO or the governments do because if no one really worries about what and especially how they do it the impact that could have would be huge.

Challenges: I think the best thing we could do is ask questions and step up for ourselves, and most importantly we should think about the impact our actions can have.
