In small groups, discuss the following questions.

1.	The report offers eight main conclusions. Summarise each in your own words:

2.	What role might global governance play in addressing/mitigating/reducing the risk of global pandemics? (what needs to be done?)

3.	This paper was written before the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak. On a Padlet screen provided by your tutor, add your thoughts on how some of these predictions came true/were accurate with the Covid-19 outbreak. What examples can you think of?

Global governance has played an important role in responding to the pandemic. Mainly strategic preparedness and response plans "to help protect countries with" weak "health care systems. The WHO response aims to slow the spread of COVID-19 and reduce mortality, and to make recommendations for national strategies to combat COVID-19.
A joint team of 25 global health experts traveled to Wuhan, China. The mission of the goal is to increase understanding of the disease, share this knowledge, and make recommendations for containment and response at the international level.

1. Globalization has caused serious and unpredictable problems in ecological and social conditions. These problems are disease transmission. For example, global warming has increased the incidence of bacterial gastroenteritis.
2. Economic globalization has caused inequality in all countries. As a whole, the poor are getting poorer and poorer, even failing to meet their basic living needs.
3. Through epidemiology, a wide range of age variables can be detected to define the population so as to further understand epidemiological analysis, as a method to determine the measurement of infectious diseases.
4. National and international public health systems have insufficient links between globalization and infectious diseases, and the broader impact of infectious diseases must be recognized.
5. The development of the industrialized world may cause poorer countries to increase the burden and risk of infectious diseases.
6. Globalization’s approach to the governance of infectious diseases: the International Health Regulations restrict and detect and report infectious disease system reports, and supervise corporate mechanisms to reduce the improper use of antibiotics.
7. There is a need to strengthen training on the global level of infectious diseases. With a deeper understanding of the potential changes in infectious diseases, medical workers will benefit from it.
8. Infectious diseases are the result of human activities carried out as part of the process of globalization. It is necessary to pay attention to the burden of infectious diseases affected by trade and investment in other industries, and do a good job in health testing.

At risk of a global pandemic, the WHO will promote surveillance activities in each region and worldwide. National laboratories in each country, especially in countries where population movements are closely linked to areas where new viruses are first identified and confirmed, are encouraged to report clusters of influenza disease outbreaks and arrange for timely experimental diagnosis, and WHO will also advise national health departments to take emergency measures to respond to global pandemics.
