Was the U.S. justified in acquiring the territory? Why or why not? You must explain yourself thoroughly here. (5 pts)

The U.S. was justified in acquiring this territory for many reasons. Firstly, It increased America's power. When you have more land, you have more power. So, when America bought this huge chunk of land, they also increased their power. Another reason why the U.S was justified is because they gained more resources. With this increase of resources, they can provide more their citizens and grow the U.S. economy. Another reason why the U.S. is justified is because they expanded their knowledge and technology grew. When this Manifest Destiny was occurring, they expanded education to a wide range of people. With this education, many new inventions have been created and children grew up to be smarter. The last reason why the U.S. was justified was because of the Mississippi River. This Mississippi River ran through the majority of the U.S. and many farmers or people can use this to transport themselves or their goods to markets and many other places. This is an advantage because they can trade with Mexico which is right across Louisiana. And they can trade with Europe and increase the U.S. economy.

Many Native Americans in the area tried to protect their land and preserve it but the U.S. surrounded them and killed many of of their tribe members. These Native Americans used methods such as shooting spears while on a horse. Some tribes were lucky enough to defend their tribes but others weren't. The tribes that didn't win were forced to move to other areas or killed.

How did U.S. acquisition of this territory impact the people who already lived there? (3pts)

The Native Americans and slaves were most impacted by the Louisiana Purchase. The Native Americans who have been living in their tribes for thousands of years were killed, torched, and moved forced to move to other areas. The U.S. government persuaded the people to kill the Buffalo because they believed it was the Native Americans only source of food. The slaves in the area were affected because they were sold back in slavery and forced to work for other people. Thousands of Slaves have died because of the Slave Trade on these areas.

The U.S. had countless costs when gaining this territory. Firstly, the Louisiana Purchase was very expensive. This expense of $11 million dollars was going to increase the United States debt and taxpayers would need to pay it. Another cost would be the unequal representation. In this territory, slavery was legal, so if they all become individual states, the states that don't agree to slavery wouldn't have a lot of representation in congress.

Gaining this land was very beneficial for the United States in many ways. The Manifest Destiny at its beginning after this purchase. The Manifest Destiny was when american's thought that god told them to go west. The U.S. also had more access to resources. The U.S. could improve their economy with this expansion. Education was spread and new technology was made with this expansion. With this purchase, They had access to the Gulf of Mexico from Louisiana. This is beneficial because The Mississippi River goes through many states before Louisiana and then ends at the Gulf of Mexico. This river made it ideal for American farmers, so they can transport their goods to markets. The United states gained 828,000 square miles with this purchase almost doubling the size of the current United States.
