         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Title and Meaning:&nbsp;</strong></p><ul><li><p>“Huts on the Beach” referencing the huts being built by Ralph and Simon for the younger boys being a vital part of their survival on the island.</p></li></ul><p><strong>Theme</strong>: Struggle to Build Civilization -</p><ul><li><p>Jack is focused on the idea of getting food (preferably meat and having more fun than serious things to do).</p></li><li><p>Ralph wants to focus on shelter from potential danger and the fire to help them get rescued.</p></li><li><p>Even with Jack agreeing earlier to focus on important things like shelter and fires he is tempted to have more fun which foreshadows possible problems and conflicts about who gets to be in charge of who gets to do what.</p></li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Important Events in Order:</strong>Jack goes hunting trying to hunt meat for the boys.</p><ul><li><p>Ralph is trying to make shelter for them and protect them from the (snakes), and to make a bigger fire.</p></li><li><p>They then argue and get into a fight about what is more important.Eventually they do find food but not meat, fruit, which is ripe and a good food source for the boys.</p></li></ul><p><br><br></p><p><strong>Symbolism</strong></p><ul><li><p>The pig symbolizes savageness&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>The bad dreams and nightmares symbolizes the evil and that’s on the island in the form of corruption&nbsp;</p></li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Characters&nbsp;</strong></p><ul><li><p>Ralph: Gets mad and frustrated that no one is helping him besides Simon.</p></li><li><p>Jack: Tries to kill the pig but fails and is frustrated he can’t kill it.</p></li><li><p>Simon: He’s the only one that helps Ralph and enjoys the beauty and peace of the island&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>Little Kids: Get excited over the plans and meetings but won’t help Ralph and would rather play in the water with each other.</p></li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Title and Meaning:&nbsp;</p><ul><li><p>“Painted Faces and Long Hair” The painted faces are towards Jack’s camouflage plan to kill the pigs for meat. He camouflage’s his face in order to have the killing be successful. The “Long Hair” symbolizes all the boy's growth from when they first arrived at the island.</p></li></ul><p>Theme: Aiming for Success</p><ul><li><p>Jack’s plan is successful, he is able to get meat for all the young boys. Also from the title of the chapter “Long Hair”&nbsp;the boys have become very civilized and successful.</p></li></ul><p>Theme: Fear</p><ul><li><p>The littluns  are continuously picturing the beastie through nightmares, and even seeing them on the water. They get more afraid everyday.&nbsp;</p></li></ul><p>Major Events</p><ul><li><p>Boys keep seeing bizarre images flickering from the water.</p></li><li><p>The little ones are troubled and continuously talk about the beastie.</p></li><li><p>Jack camouflages his face with clay and charcoal to kill the pig.</p></li><li><p>Back on the beach, Ralph and piggy see a ship but their signal fire has gone out.</p></li><li><p>They try to go start it again, but are too late. Ralph gets mad at Jack because he was supposed to keep the fire going.</p></li><li><p>The hunters return covered in blood but carrying a dead pig.</p></li><li><p>Ralph goes to Piggy and uses his glasses to light a fire, so that they can roast the pig. Then they dance and reenact the hunt around the fire.</p></li><li><p>Ralph says to all the boys that he is calling a meeting.&nbsp;</p></li></ul><p>Symbolism</p><ul><li><p>The images on the water symbolize danger and that they are going into a manic state.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>The Pig symbolizes success for the boys.&nbsp;</p></li></ul><p>Characters</p><ul><li><p>Jack: Hunts and Kills a pig.</p></li><li><p>Ralph: He tries to rekindle the fire then when that was not successful, he gets angry at the fire and Jack.</p></li><li><p>Piggy: Is dismissive about the images, and doesn't think mirages.</p></li><li><p>Littluns: Are very scared of the beastie, and see images through the water. </p></li><li><p>Roger: tortures the little ones</p></li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Title and Meaning:</p><ul><li><p>“Beast from Water” is referencing one of the littluns claiming to have seen the beast and that it might come out of the water at night and that is why they can’t find it</p></li></ul><p>Theme: Loss of Innocence&nbsp;</p><ul><li><p>When Ralph was talking to the others about not being scared, he remembered when at the beginning they were all very happy but now they are all very sad and scared</p></li><li><p>Also when Jack starts to yell at the littluns about how to not be scared anymore and that there is no beast to hurt them and that they have to “man up”</p></li></ul><p>Major Events:</p><ul><li><p>Ralph walks along the beach planning his speech for the next meeting</p></li><li><p>He starts the meeting and explains its not a fun or silly meeting</p></li><li><p>He gives a speech about all of the issues the island is facing and how no one is following the rules</p></li><li><p>An issue that gets brought up specifically is the littluns creating lots and panic and fear over the beastie </p></li><li><p>One of the littluns says the beast could come from the water which causes the meeting to develop into chaos</p></li><li><p>Everyone leaves and only Ralph, Simon, and Piggy are left. Piggy says he should blow the horn to get everyone back but Ralph is scared it won't work</p></li></ul><p>Symbolism:</p><ul><li><p>The conch shell has lost its color representing how the rules on the island have fallen apart</p></li></ul><p>Characters: </p><ul><li><p>Ralph shows how he is trying to be a good leader and get everyone back on track</p></li><li><p>Piggy continues to get pushed around and disrespected by the other boys</p></li><li><p>Simon shows how he is good-willed as he reassures Ralph at the end of the chapter</p></li><li><p>Jack descends more into savagery as he gets more violent and he and all the hunters chant at the end of the chapter </p></li></ul>]]></description>

The beast is the darkness and the tribe offers up a gift to him.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>Theme-&nbsp;</p></li></ol><ul><li><p>Evil and embodiment of fear: because they recognize their fear for the beast.&nbsp;</p></li></ul><ol start="3"><li><p>Major Events</p></li></ol><ul><li><p>Jack calls a meeting and says that there is definitely a beast on the mountain, and also says Ralph should not be a leader. But, the other boys disagree and don’t vote him out of power.</p></li><li><p>Simon suggests that they all return to the mountain to find the beast, but some boys are too scared.</p></li><li><p>Piggy cheers up Ralph by suggesting that they create a new signal fire.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>Jack creates his new tribe and becomes the chief. On their journey to find the beast they end up killing a sow. Roger was the one who put his spear into the sow's anus.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>They leave the head to the beast as an offering.</p></li><li><p>The hunters return to the beach cheering and steal burning sticks from the fire. Jack says anyone is welcome to join the tribe for some food.</p></li><li><p>Simon slips away from everyone and goes back to the jungle. He stares at the pig's head because it is swarming with flies.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>Then Simon hears the voices of the “Lord of the Flies” which says that they can never escape.          <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>Title and Meaning: "A View to a Death" Simon was condemned to a death by the Lord of the Flies because Simon found out the truth about the Lord of the Flies.</p></li><li><p>Theme: The tensions between man's urge for savagery and the controlling nature of civilization, and secondly, the loss of innocence.</p></li><li><p>Major Events: Simon finds out that the beast is really just a dead body. The boys all join together for a feast and Jack and Ralph continue to argue. Finally the boys kill Simon because they are turning savage and they think he is the beast</p></li></ol><p><br/></p><ol start="4"><li><p>Symbolism</p></li></ol><p><br/></p><p>Beast: now used as a totem and a god like figure by Jack so his tribe obeys him. They have been tricked by thinking that Jack is their protector against the beast and that is how he controls them.</p><p><br/></p><p>Simon’s death: shows how savage the kids have become and have animal like instincts.
