“What’s the difference between “on the contrary” and “in contrast”.  Could you help me ? “

Dear Frustrated,

· On the contrary is used to show that the opposite of what has just been said is true.

e.g.

A: “You're a  vegetarian, aren't you?"

B: "On the contrary, I love meat." 

Usually the first sentence is in the negative form.

In informal, everyday language, you can use “Actually”

· In contrast is used when you are comparing two different ideas or opinions 

e.g.

An aeroplane has wings. In contrast, a helicopter does not.
