As of Thursday, Aug. 21, the moon phase is Waning Crescent, and only 3% will be lit up to us on Earth, according to NASA's Daily Moon Observation. We're on day 28 of the lunar cycle, and there's really not a whole lot for us to see tonight.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Moon is Earth’s closest neighbor in space and our only natural satellite. It may look small in the sky, but it’s actually a huge ball of rock, about one-fourth the size of Earth! The surface of the Moon is covered with craters, mountains, and flat areas called “seas” even though they don’t have water. These features were created over billions of years by space rocks crashing into it. </p><p><br/></p><p>Unlike Earth, the Moon has no air, no wind, and no rain, so everything on its surface stays the same for a very long time. That’s why the footprints left by astronauts in the Moon dust are still there today!</p><p>One of the coolest things about the Moon is how it changes shape in the sky. </p><p><br/></p><p>This cycle repeats every month. Watching the Moon each night is like watching a show that slowly changes   it’s fun to see how it grows and shrinks!</p><p>The Moon also plays a big part in life on Earth. Its gravity pulls on the Earth’s oceans and helps create tides  the rise and fall of ocean water. </p>]]></description>

The celestial body's influence on humans biology has largely been dismissed as myth, but several studies have linked lunar phases with sleep and mood <strong><mark>Yes, the Moon's gravitational pull controls Earth's tides by creating bulges in the oceans on both the side closest to it and the side farthest from it</mark></strong>. As the Earth rotates, different locations pass through these bulges, resulting in the cycle of rising and falling tides.
