Age of Exploration and Age of Colonization

Topic: The two topics I studied under LIVING were Age of Exploration and Age of Reason. During this time, Europeans were exploring new lands across sea and colonizing the area.

Reflection: The artifact I chose for my reflection is a newsletter about a famous explorer named Magellan and his journey across the Pacific ocean. Personally, I believe this project was a success, as I learned much about Magellan and how many other European explorers went through difficult trips to obtain Gold, God, and Glory. I feel like I did a great job in explaining the Journey of Magellan and how human right #13 played a important part to him. One thing I could improve is writing more information about the compass and it's uses during a voyage.

Connection: Those who who explored the unknown lands were granted human right #13 " the right to move", for if this right did not exist, no explorer would have been able to voyage across the Pacific ocean.
Application to present day: Most countries nowadays grant human right #13 to their people. People living in unjust governments and those under war however, are still denied of these rights today. They include North Korea, Syria, and a few others.

Age of Reason and Age of Revolution

Topic: The two topics I studied under
INVENTING were Age of Reason and Age of Revolution. During this time, the ideas of communism were introduced and those living under the king's rule (Monarchy) fought back.

Reflection: The artifact I chose for my reflection is a scratch presentation I created about the French Revolution. I learned how the third estate was not happy of how they were treated and fought back against the first and second estate's. I personally think I did well on this project, as my presentation was well edited, easy to view, and contained funny interesting material along with all of the basic requirements of the project. I explained the three estates thoroughly, along with how the French Revolution began. The only thing I could have done better was during the presentation, to make sure the characters that were not speaking(There was more than one character) to stay completely hidden.

Connection: When USA won it's independence from Britain, and when the third estate were granted to be equal to the first and second estate, they were also granted human right #19 "Freedom of Expression", for if this right did not exist, people would not have been able to share their ideas, which would have never caused the French and American Revolution.

Application to present day: This right allows many people around the world to express themselves freely. If a law or government is unjust, we now have the right to organize boycotts, speeches, and nonviolent protests.

F - FORMULATING

Gilded Age and World War I

Topic: The two topics I studied under FORMULATING were the Gilded Age and WW1. During this time, advancements in technology were massive. Countries throughout the world were glorifying their nationality and military power. They did this through setting up factories and hiring workers. The factory conditions were terrible and workers were often hurt and even killed. WW1 started when conflict broke between Austria Hungary and Serbia after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo on 28th June 1914.

Reflection: The artifact I chose for my reflection is a newspaper article I wrote about the factory's horrible working conditions and if it was worth for families to send their children to these dangerous mills. I learned that many middle class families were struggling to survive during the Gilded age and had no choice to send their children to these dangerous factory's in order to survive. My clarification on how the factory's long working hours and the difficulties workers faced were detailed and well explained. I also cited my sources correctly using the citation maker. One improvement I could make next time is to give more information during the human right connection.

Connection: Young factory workers were denied human right #24 "Right to play" while working in the mills. As stated in my reflection, the factory conditions were dangerous and many workers were injured during their working hours. What I did not state was how many workers were unable to go home and rest after falling ill from the factory and were fired if they did. What a clear violation of human right #24 "Right to play."

Application to present day: Sadly, many factories in the present world are still denying Human right #24. They are known as sweatshops. Nike is known to overwork their fellow factory workers and forcing them to spend long hours and punishing them if they try to rest. Organizations around the world are trying to resolve this matter through protests and boycotts.

World War II, the Cold War, New Nations

Topic: The three topics I studied under EXPANDING were WWII, the Cold War, and New Nations. Even after WWI, Hitler's genocide started WWII, which lead to death of nearly 10 million people. Many Jews were sent to Nazi death camps where they worked until they died. The debate of communism and capitalism grew between the US and the Soviet Union. This lead to the Cold War and the Space Race. Countries under Europe's rule were also liberated. They included Israel and India.

Reflection: The artifact I chose for my reflection is a padlet I made about the space race between the US and Soviet Union. The Space Race began when the Soviet Union successfully launched a satellite into space into space in 1957. The US, determined not to lose too much ground to the Soviets, began to send satellite in space as well. My information on how the Space Race began, whether it was a open conflict or crisis, the political ideas that shaped this conflict, and human right connection was well written with me using the state, explain, support, elaborate, and connect in all five passages.

Connection: Human right #14, The right to seek a safe place to live, was denied from the Jews as they tried to escape Hitler's grasp. Hitler wished to wipe out the entire Jewish population and barricaded all entrances and exits, trapping the Jews and forbidding them to flee. This matter is still not completly resolved today, as people living unstable countries around the world are still suffering from this issue. They include several countries throughout Africa and North Korea.
Application to present day:

Introduction

Human Rights - Human rights are simply rights you have as a human being. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights were originally established in 1948 to provide equality to all people. However, when they were first established, they were considered optional, causing not all countries to follow this rule. That is why thousands of people are still denied of their human rights today. Some of the human rights include Human Right #1 We are all born free and equal", to Human right #30, "No one can take away your human rights."

 L.I.F.E. means to me:

Living during the Age of Exploration and Colonization, the people of Europe were developing their source of transportation. After the fall of Constantinople, many Europeans wished to find better areas to live in. With advancements in transportation across sea, many set on expeditions in search for Gold, God, and Glory. Once the Europeans arrived at their destination, they claimed the land to be theirs and colonized the area.
This time period connects to Inventing with the Age of Reason and Revolution by introducing ideas of communism throughout the world. This caused many people worldwide living under the king's rule(monarchy) to fight back and spread their ideas which would be follwed by a period called the Enlightment.

The Age of Reason and Revolution connects to the Formulating of the Gilded Age and World War I because after many countries broke free from monarchy, they improved their advancements in technology. For instance, after USA got it's independence from Great Britain, they expanded their country, causing the Industrial Revolution. With many advancements with technology in different countries, this caused tension/conflict between nations. In 1914, conflict originated throughout Europe between Austria Hungary and Serbia which was followed by WWI.
The Gilded Age and World War I leads to Expanding because after WWI, conflict between the European countries lead to WWII, which lead to Germany's defeat once again. Many other European countries besides Germany also lost their power due to their debt during WWI and WWII. This caused countries such as India and Israel who lived under Europe's rule to break free and form their own country. The use of communism and capitalism were also developed by the United States and the Soviet Union after WWII. This was followed by many historical events such as the Cold War and the Space Race. To prevent nuclear warfare which could lead to WW3, the two superpowers established peace, ending the Cold War.
