1. The Beginning of Greatness

At the beginning before the french revolution, France was ran by King Louis the XIV and the type of government that he was running was called the Estates General. The Estates General was where the three estates the 1st estate which was the clergy/church the 2nd estate which housed the nobles and the 3rd estate had all the poor people like me which were referred to as the commoners all had 1 vote to decide and make laws. The 1st estate was 1% of the population, the 2nd estate was 10%, and the 3rd estate was 89%. The problem with this system was that the 1st and 2nd estate always outvoted the 3rd estate 2-1 every time. This means that the 3rd estate was barely staying alive because while the 1st and 2nd estate spends all of Frances money and living the life, the 3rd estate was eating sawdust bread and having to work the lands to fund the parties the other two estates were hosting. You are probably asking what is the king doing to help the financial problem and unequal system in France? Well he was willing to do anything to make the 1st and 2nd estate happy and was spending money on extravagant projects and wars also a thing to note about King Louis is that he was a weak leader. The commoners were tired of eating sawdust bread and the biased system so they asked King Louis to do something and finally he did. He decided to make each estate list their issues on notebooks so they can vote on what to fix, at the end the 3rd estate lost and didn't get anything fixed because they got out-voted 2-1. The 3rd estate was exhausted and frustrated that nothing has been done so they decided to meet and they made what is called the national assembly which was a representative system like the estates general but instead of each estate getting one vote this system was based on population which was made on May, 1789. After that the national assembly passes where all the estates talk about it the doors to the assembly was locked before the 3rd estate was able to get in but at least the other 2 estates managed to get in before the doors closed. The 3rd estate break in and make the tennis court oath which was in a tennis court where they promised to not disband the constitution for the freedom of people in France has been written.

2. The Next Step

The next part in this story is the storming of the Bastille on July in 1789. The 3rd estate decided to storm the Bastille because they felt like they need to arm themselves with weapons, felt that the national assembly was falling apart, and finally the last thing they felt that King Louis was attacking their rights. The Bastille had soldiers on guard to protect against the commoners but the soldier's were also apart the 3rd estate and were hungry and tried too so they joined the storming of the Bastille. They succeeded in taking over the Bastille and put the generals head on top of a pike. The advocate for the 3rd estate at this time was a guy named Robespierre which lead the violent over throw of the Monarch, he believed that he was incorruptible but later he got corrupt also he believed that France should be under a republic of government. The next event in this story is the March on the Palace of Versailles which happen on October in the year 1789. The Palace of Versailles was a mansion that housed King Louis and the Queen Marie Antoniette which was funded by the hard working people of France. The March on the Palace of Versailles was at first for girls but people started to join in. They Marched on Versailles because they were angry for the price of bread and blamed Marie for spending so much money which is justified because they were making peanuts and Marie spent millions just for her 18 birthday party. The national assembly failed so they attempted there 3rd form of government a legislative government where the people work with King Louis to make every one happy, the only problem is that they never had this form of government they were use to one person leading also King Louis and Queen Marie was caught trying to sneak out of France so they were beheaded for conspiring against the Revolution. Robespierre lead France to its 3rd form of government the 3rd form being the First Republic which supported the peoples rights and also created the Regin of Terror in which anyone who speaks out against the revolution is killed and the one leading this is Robespierre which ends when he dies.

3. The End of the Beginning

After the end of the Regin of Terror and Robespierre the next form of government to settle in France is the Directory which is a form of government which contained an upper house and lower house who proposed Legislative for the Government and the upper house veto's or accepts what was proposed by the other house. The struggle with this form of government is that there was a lot of corruption and because of a new person who comes into frame, this person is Napoleon. Napoleon was able to take control of France because he was a military genius, fought for the revolution which made him very popular, and staged a coup d'etat in 1799 to overthrow the Directory government with help from his army. After he takes over France still his ambition wasn't satisfied so he turned to the rest of Europe to conquer in which he conquers Austria, Prussia, Portugal, and Spain, weakens England his biggest opp by using the continental system to hit there economy which was going well until his ally's broke the continental system opening trade to England, and puts his family in charge of those countries. He managed to help Frances economic problems by getting money from conquered territories, increased education, sells territory in North America to the Americans to fund his military campaign in Europe, improved relationships with the pope, allows freedom of religion to make him look better, makes new laws for France called the Napoleonic code, eliminates the estate system in which made the people happy, and last he pronounced himself Emperor of France. Napoleons political changes in France helps his country extremely and the poor are finally happy. Napoleons downfall begins with Napoleon invasion of Russia in 1812 which he invades during winter and loses majority of his army. Then the Coalition of Europe powers defeats him limiting his power in Europe and exiling him to a island in which he escapes for 100 days going back to France to take his power back but is defeated in the battle of Waterloo. After the battle of Waterloo he is then exiled to prison on a remote island with no hope on returning but he is remembered as a conqueror of Europe in which he installed his own rulers of conquered nations and remembered as one of Frances most refined military leader who was able to bring France to greatness. The forms of governments during the Revolution is the Estates general in which the three estates have one vote, the National Assembly being a form of government where it goes off of population, the Legislative government where the people and the king works together to keep the people happy, the First Republic being for the people and was in charge of executing King Louis XVI, and the last being a Directory which contained a upper and lower class where the lower class makes the laws and the upper class accepted or decline there laws.
