One of the planets has a dark, dreary atmosphere representing the secretive captivity that Hailsham encompasses. On the other hand, Earth represents foreign life, and symbolizes what is to be experienced in the near future for the children. So far the characters experience various situations which make them question this "special" place in which they live, as well as why they are being held here.

Like, what are the donations? Why is Miss Emily so different from all the other guardians? Why are the children being held here "special"?

This picture represents the exploitation of the children in Hailsham with the donations. The world is using these innocent children for their organs when they are being kept in the dark about their future. While they do know that they will never be able to experience certain things that others can, they do not completely understand the extent to what has been stolen from them. Their organs aren't the only things that the world has robbed them of; they also took their opportunities of having a normal life. What is even worse are the guardians of Hailsham who are standing by raising these children for death.

One of the most surprising parts of this story, so far, was when Madame caught Kathy singing along to "Songs after Dark" by Judy Bridgewater. When we were initially introduced to Madame's character, I began to develop a conspiracy theory that she could possibly be Kathy's mother. Her emotional reaction in this scene suggests that seeing Kathy pretend to hold a baby may have allowed old memories to resurface. Is it possible that Kathy was taken away from Madame shortly after birth? Even though Kathy may have been too young to remember this experience, it could explain why she always reminded of childbirth/motherhood when she heard the tape.

Miss Geraldine supported and praised his work to the class and that's when all the other kids began to have a problem with Tommy. However, in my opinion I think even a elephant can involve creativity but it is not seen as the creative norm the other kids are used to.

Something that I find extremely important about this story is the loops that it finds itself in. When things happen that should make a big impact, they don't at all and people are still stuck in their ways. We as humans have a tendency to want to cling onto what we know, and resist change even though that can be detrimental to others around us. This in my opinion related to Tommy and Kathy in the way that she will forever hold on to what time they shared together.

I chose a photo representing the blurred lines of what was known by the children and what was actually going on behind the scenes. The children of Hailsham seem to have some sense of what was happening but the true meaning of these events were left unclear, like how Madame, when faced with these children, almost seemed tense around them but cried when little Kathy sang. When reflecting back the memories are like blurry photos, very unsure and the speaker’s tone sounds as if she herself is still unsure to this day.
