Like when you take drugs it affects your brain in a negative way. But I never would have thought that Drug addiction would cause the U.S so much. It's crazy how much money isn't going toward education, technology, new inventions etc. I knew child abuse and neglect was pretty major but, I would have never guessed that half of neglect cases had to do with substance abuse. That’s really sad, it's sad that those kids got put in foster care, because the parents couldn’t deal with their problem. I find also it interesting that 70 percent of prisoners used drugs before arrest. I wonder if half of those prisoners were in jail for murder under the influence. All this is not only affecting people who are taking the drugs, it’s affecting the people around them. Communities, neighborhoods,families and friends. Innocent people get hurt or die for something they weren’t even involved in. So yeah it’s a HUGE problem in our society that is still going on.

I mean having better access for treatment is good for people who wanna get help. I just feel like no matter what people do they could have the best treatment or all of the support but still go back to their old ways. Those that are struggling with substance abuse that want help, there should be programs like this in poorer communities that have a high percentage of people using drugs.

I would have thought that heroin or crack would’ve taken the first place spot. I didn’t even know that alcohol was a drug. I always thought it was a beverage that you can’t abuse. I hear all the time that alcohol is in a result of car crashes, so it makes since that alcohol is on top. I usually hear alcohol related deaths than drugs use. I think that is because alcohol is easier to access.

I that it’s interesting to learn more about drugs and how it affects people and their lives. When I picked this problem to research I didn’t think I would learn anything that I didn’t already know. Turns out drugs is way more complex to the human brain than I thought.
