In this part of the book, the author explain how even though he should be hiding Eli still sneaks out to see Ruth. He can do this because he does not look like the average Jew. I chose this scene because it shows a time when they took risks. This scene made he feel scared for Eli because i did not know if he would get caught or not.

This quote from the book takes place right after Micheals mom found out her husband and other son were sent to the gas chambers. I chose this scene because even though it was sad Sophie still got up because of Micheal. After reading this i felt the sad but at the same time hopeful that Sophie and Micheal would still survive.

This is near the end of the book where Michael is turning 15. When you are Jewish your 15 birthday is when you become an adult. I chose this scene because I think they are happier as they settle into their new life. I felt happy during this scene because of that.

As a reader we don’t know if this is a good decision for them.
