I believe listening is so important because when we listen to someone, we hear tone which always shows us their true intentions. A sentence like "I'm fine" can mean countless other things depending on how the individuals tone sounded when speaking. It helps us become aware of how the induvial meant something regardless of the words used.

Listening is crucial to developing oral language skills because to say a word "correctly" is to hear how and when it's used properly. As someone who loves to read the best way I can relate listening back to oral language is when readers comprehend a character's name in their book as one thing (however they said it in their head) and then actually hearing how it was meant to sound when watching the movie adaptation.

Just listening to what they have to say whether its nonsense or just what is going on in their life. Another one, is you can learn a lot. If a student is learning, listening to them can show us as educators what the student is learning.

I think with listening, my ELL would have a very similar issue. I think it would be extra hard for her to listen within a loud setting because she is already focusing on trying to understand a new language. This may be extra difficult because the extra speaking around her is also new, so she would be trying to process so many things at the same time. I think having a one on one conversation or being in a smaller, quiet room would be beneficial to her.

Listening is important because it is one of the best way to learn and gather information correctly. If we aren't listening and something is just in written form, it may be confusing. For example if someone says, "seriously" with a loud expressive voice it may mean they are angry. If they say it with a softer voice they may simply be asking if the person was serious. We really need to take a persons tone and loudness into account.

They can get good examples of how a person says something using tones, and loudness. They can also see how the person communicates with others and how they respond using prosody. They may think they were saying something correctly because that is how they saw it written, but it may be different when they hear it through speech.

Listening and oral language come hand in hand. If there are two people communicating, one person is engaging in oral communication while the other is listening, which is how verbal communication works. You can't have one without the other if you want to have productive conversations.

This means that you have prior knowledge of the topic that you are going to cover, and have already developed your own opinion on the matter.

Listening is important for developing oral language because it is a representation of what the language sounds like when in use. For instance, babies absorb everything they see and hear, and they eventually try to mimic it. Children who are deaf do not have the auditory component unless their parents decide on hearing aids or a cochlear implant. Up until they receive that auditory device, they focus solely on visual and written components. Either way, listening or seeing language will eventually help the child develop their language skills, whether it be orally or manually.

If we didn't listen, we would miss out on a lot of things we need to know socially and educationally. This is because I may have been hearing what she was saying, but not truly listening.

My mind would wander, and I’d get distracted by things happening around me instead of paying attention to the person talking. Sometimes, I didn’t understand instructions right away, so I’d miss important details or do things the wrong way. It wasn’t that I didn’t care I just found it hard to stay still and really process what I was hearing. Over time, I started learning how to focus better by looking at the speaker, asking questions, and trying to repeat things in my head so I could remember them.

When we pay attention to what someone is saying, we can follow directions, gain new information, and respond correctly. It also shows respect and helps build good relationships. For example, I sometimes struggle to find the right words or phrases when speaking. My ELL student may also struggle with this because they may not be familiar with the English vocabulary for what they are trying to say. Another thing I think we would have in common is that sometimes I struggle to stay focused and listen when other people are talking because I am thinking about how I want to respond. I think my ELL student would have a similar challenge because they may be either trying to comprehend the unfamiliar words that are being said in English, or they may be trying to think of what words they need to use to respond. This could cause ELL students to not fully listen during a conversation.
