Growing up, I was never allowed my phone at the dinner table or any family function. Now, I struggle with other people being on their phones during dinner or get togethers. I fall into the trap and get on my phone and while I am on my phone, I block out everything else. I am not a multi tasker. I have a few challenges with speaking. Genrally, I am very outgoing and easy to talk to. I struggle with talking to fast and my words bledning together or meshing the word together. An example is that recently I have been noticing when I go to say the word "for" I say "fer". I also struggle with losing my train of thought. I think with listening, my ELL would have a very similar issue. I think it would be extra hard for her to listen within a loud setting because she is already focusing on trying to understand a new language. This may be extra difficult because the extra speaking around her is also new, so she would be trying to process so many things at the same time. If I'm relating myself to my ELL student, I feel like it's hard to compare. My student is a 7th grader whose first language is German. I don't think comparing my listening and speaking skills is fair. My ELL struggles with speaking in context and has a hard time with having intention behind his sentences.
