In March, 1943 the Germans arrived to Novi Sad and took away all the men. In April, 1944 they then decided to take all the women. She had stayed with her mother in the camp and would not leave her side. After a month and a half, certain women were taken to Gleiwitz and her mom had stayed behind. When Hitler heard, he had instructed a pogrom would take place. (Pogrom is a mob attack against a certain race or or national minority.) In 2 days, more than 1,000 synagogues were burned/damaged. At least 91 jews were killed. More than 7,500 jewish businesses were ransacked. The U.S. government hid the bombings from the public and kept it hidden for several years. Estimates ranged from 30,000 to 500,000.
