- Sickle cell anemia is an inherited form of anemia. A condition where there isn't enough red healthy blood cells to carry adequate oxygen throughout the body.
- Normally, red blood cells are flexible and round so they can easily move through your vessels. In sickle cell anemia the red blood cells are rigid and sticky and are crescent moon shaped.
- These irregular shaped blood cells can easily get stuck in small blood vessels, this can slow/block blood flow and oxygen to certain parts of the body

Embryonal RMS: This tumor usually develops in the head and neck area, genitals, or urinary tract. It typically affects kids younger than 6.RMS is a very rare cancer.Alveolar RMS: This type, which is most likely to happen during the teen years, most often affects the arms or legs, chest, or abdomen. It, too, is fast-growing but often more difficult to treat. Most kids with alveolar RMS need intensive treatment.

There are only about 350 cases of RMS diagnosed each year in the United States in children under the age of 21 years. About four children per million healthy kids under the age of 15 will develop RMS each year. It is slightly more common in boys than in girls and it is most common in young children under the age of five.

- The lack of oxygen can suddenly cause attacks of severe pain, known as crises
- The attacks are without warning and are so severe the person will more than likely go to a hospital for effective treatment.
- The poor oxygen delivery can often cause organ damage to a person's organs over a lifetime
- The only known cure for sickle cell anemia is a hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, although this procedure can be quite difficult.
- Most people with sickle cell anemia are either too old, or don't have a relative who is a good enough genetic match to be a donor
- There is effective treatments to help reduce pain, and prolong life.
- Early diagnosis and regular medical care help prevent complications and can help to live a longer life
