The little blue truck is nice to all his animal friends and even helps out a big truck who was a bit rude. I think this is an excellent book to teach kindness to everyone around you, even the people who aren't nice to you. It is full of rhymes and color coordinated sound words. For example, 'the little blue truck goes BEEP' and then beep is in blue just like the color of the truck. This would be ideal for kindergarten to first grade. Zoe has an idea of what perfect is and life is not it. Her best friend leaves her for another girl who lives closer and has a similar life style. She eventually makes friends with the boys of her grade. She dreams of playing the piano in a grand hall but is stuck playing the organ. Her father never leaves the house and her mother works constantly trying to provide for the family. Zoe is awkward and relatable in many ways. This book would be excellent as a read aloud because of its poetry format which gives the reader a chance to really put emotion into the words. This could also be used as a classroom novel to teach students about poetry and to let them all know that they aren't alone if their life isn't going the way they hoped. Everyone around her sees her as a boy. The story is all about how she lets the people in her life know that she is a girl. With her best friend Kelly by her side they pull it off. This story would be a good novel as a suggested read for students who may be going through similar situations or have siblings or friends that might be going through a gender transition. With parent permission this could be an excellent classroom novel to talk about with students and how tot best approach sensitive situations like George's and to teach respect and understanding for the LGBTQ+ community. Her parents are hardworking rice farmers who live in poverty but always try to provide the best for their daughter. Minli sees how hard they work and how much they fret about getting food on the table so, using her father's stories of dragons and magic, she goes on a quest to find the Old Man of the Moon who is the only person who can change their fortune. This would be an incredibly fun read aloud to ages 1st grade through 5th grade. The magical and artful storytelling will engross any child. It falls under the scary story because of its monstrous characters. This could be a fun read-aloud to students 2nd-4th grade especially during Halloween.

The pictures are a mix of real photographs of places and people and illustrations. The story is scary because part of it is true so it raises the question of is it all true? This book would also fall under folklore but non-fiction because it’s a part of our American history. The things that people experienced in these place aren’t fiction but can be proven by fact. I think what makes it truly terrifying is that these other worldly experiences happened to real people and the fact that we don’t know if ghosts exist or not is scary. Once again the ending is makes this book chilling. The protagonists think that they’ve gotten rid of the camera and its out of their lives but then a pair of bullies seen earlier in the novel find it and use and we’re left with them looking to see how it turned out. These chapter books are meant for ages 3rdgrade-middle school. This book carries a powerful message about friendship and kindness. We must embrace who we are and not rely on others to approve of a person we try to be. This would be a great class novel to read and a great way to introduce graphic novels to students who otherwise may never try them out. It brings a whole new twist to the classic tale of Hansel and Gretel. It comes from the witch's point of you and it turns out the step mother is the real bad guy! This would be a fun picture book for PreK-1st grade as a stand alone book. I'd bring it into older classrooms by doing a similar activity like we did in class. I'd first want to give them the original tale and then give this as a new view. It seems to follow one red-haired young boy through his journey of building a cathedral. I think this would be considered a narrative because of it goes in a specific order of how a cathedral is built. This would be a better book for self-discovery because there’s many different parts on the pages with captions, diagrams, and additional information beyond the main paragraph of information. I would want my students to spend some time with this book so they can soak in the information and really enjoy the interactive qualities of the text and pictures. It’s easy to follow along and can be read aloud during a history lesson with minimal additional content beyond the major paragraphs on each page. The illustrations take up a large portion of the page but still teach a lot especially since the Egyptians were known for their artwork and hieroglyphs. This could be paired with a fun art activity where students can make their own hieroglyphics. This would be great for 1st graders! Mr. Sillypants is planning a trip with his family and he is so excited! The pictures are full of color and cheer until he cannot find his family! As you turn the pages you can tell how hectic he is based on all the clutter around him as he tries packing for his trip and the worry on his face when he can’t find his family. Through the pictures, you’re able to really feel what he is feeling and the text is fun to read too because it starts out in the corners but the speech text goes all over the page. When I was younger children’s book depicting members of the LGBTQ+ community was unheard of. It’s a book about family which might not seem like a big deal but the this raises the acceptance of the community greatly. The pictures are water color like and depict a very happy family filled with lots of smiles and color! When Heather goes to her very first day of school the teacher has the students draw pictures of their family and no two families are the same. Some of step parents, one parent and a grandparent, and some with or without siblings. Unfortunately, I don't think society is quite to the point of full acceptance of this community and I would need permission to present this to the class.
