The plan falls within the context of improving the accountability criteria: graduation rate, attendance rate, college and career readiness, low suspension rate, ELD reclassification or progress, and NWEA as proof of learning.

Suggestions Based on Knowle's Principles

In my opinion, teachers specifically do bring a wealth of valuable experience and knowledge to the table. The other principles also indicate that adults like to direct their own learning and need to see the added value of whatever it is we are asking them to learn. Therefore, I suggest that administrators or adult educators must solicit feedback from the teachers ahead of time and let that feedback inform the planning of PD.

The challenge is when teachers are not convinced of the added value when other layers in the organization already see this need. Here, I suggest that administrators should invest some time and effort in building consensus and clearly and openly sharing with teachers how and why the suggested technology for example will help the teachers before they sign them up for the workshop.

My survey was designed to solicit teacher feedback on three tools that our school administrators have made available: Google Suite, NWEA, SIS & ParentSquare. I was interested to see the level of proficiency and how often teachers use these tools. The later part of the survey asks an open ended question about any other tools teachers are currently using or would like to be trained on that would improve their practice. The survey is 9 questions only using SurveyMonkey. It should take about 2 minutes to complete and was sent to all 95 staff members including support staff such as operations, compliance, student relations and tutors & paraprofessionals.
