I do not have a huge story associated with my name. My first name is Alison, my middle name is Ruth (I've always disliked my middle name).

I was adopted. My first name comes from my parents (the couple who adopted me). I'm not sure where they got it or why. It might be related to the fact that Alison is also my aunt's middle name. They simply liked how it sounded.

My middle name comes from my "birth-giver". She named me after her grandmother. My parents were kind enough to allow her to pick my middle name. Unfortunately, I am not a huge fan of the name Ruth. I might change it one day but for now, I leave it, to respect the sentimental value it has to my family members.

No one in my family is named after each other. We do not have any repeat names or reasons for the names we have! Pretty simple!

And not the Jess from New Girl!

I am my parent's first child and they LOVED the name Jessica. However, one of my Dad's best friends was also having a baby who was due at the same time as me. He ran into his buddy at the hospital, and they realized that they both planned to name their daughter Jessica. Knowing we would go to school together our whole lives, his friend spoke to his wife and they opted to "let" my parents have the name. To this day, my friend JENNIFFER still teases me that I stole her name.

My middle name is Claire. After my grandfather, Clarence, who unfortunately passed away before I was born.

As I started typing this out, I almost said that my name has no meaning but that really isn't the case. My first name is simply just a name that my parents liked - I wasn't named after anyone in particular there. My last name is Langelier which is of French origin as my paternal grandfather's side was all French Canadian but my middle name says something else. My middle name is of Chinese origin. I was adopted from China as an infant and my parents wanted to keep a part of my Chinese identity with me to carry forever in my name. So, I have a few different meanings to my name which is kind of neat. :)

Hi! My name is Sara. Here is the story of how I got my name ... the deal between my parents was that my Mom would be able to pick my Godparents and my Dad would be able to pick my name. However, my Dad wanted to name me Sarah but my Mom at the time knew someone with that name that she did not like. So, they both decided that in order to prevent my Mom from thinking of that person when calling my name, they would drop the "s" from my name which is how I ended up with the spelling of my name. Sara also means Princess!

It is derived from the greek work for pearl. My family's background is mainly Scottish hence the choice of a traditional name - though my dad did not what to go with one of the more popular spellings and chose one that is typically used as a sure-name. The joke is my parents wanted to give me a complex. The fact that is represents a link to my background makes me feel more conected to it.
That's my nephew in orrientation with me last week btw.

My name doesn't have a fancy story or anything. My mom was a teenager in the 80s and loved the name Brittany, as did many women around that age at that time. I've always thought my name wasn't very special because I know so many other Brittanys - there were even four others in my graduating class in high school - but now that I'm older I've come to terms with my name.
My middle name comes from my maternal grandmother's side of the family. According to my mother, it was tradition to have either Anne or Marie/Mary as a middle name. So I got both!

I believe 'Mitra' or a variation of the name originally refers to an Indian/Iranian deity, though I'm not quite sure of what, but I think it is along the lines of friendship, light or truth. The wikipedia page is a little overwhelming!

However, I'm neither Iranian nor Indian - I am Lebanese! My mum just heard the name somewhere and immediately loved it, so it's really not that exciting of a story. But I do like how unique the name is, even though it can be a little othering at times.

My mom was having trouble coming up with a name for me while she was pregnant. She was watching TV and there was a character named Christie, which she liked the sound of. Apparently she felt a very strong kick in her stomach so she thought that was a sign. She decided to change the spelling a bit to take away that not-so-subtle connection to Christ/Christianity (the original name actually means "little Christian girl"), so she went with Kristie! I love my name because it is fairly unique, the only issue I ever have is people calling my "Kirsty" or "Kristine" by accident. I also just looked up my name again and "Christie" is also apparently a world in skiing terminology! Huh!

Turns out, my dad also really liked the name because they liked Alex for a girl. They thought it was a strong name and they wanted their daughter to be a strong woman! My Dad said when I was born, he could see an ‘Alex’ walking though the woods with a backpack on, unlike some of the other names they had on the short list.
