One of the things that Greece is most famous for is their plethora of gods and goddesses. These gods and goddesses were "created" sometime around the early 7th century BC, and were thought to explain many things that happened that could not be explained (i.e., natural disasters.) Some of the most notable figures in Greek Mythology are;

Zeus - Known as "The Father of Gods and Men". He is a sky god who has power over lightning and thunder. He is also the king of Mount Olympus, home of the gods.

Athena (or Athene) - The goddess of wisdom and war. She is goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, strategic warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill.

Ares - The god of war, mostly the "unpleasant" aspects of it.

Dionysus - The god of the vine. Dionysus was the last god to enter Olympus. He is know for traveling/wandering the earth, teaching (mostly men) the "culture" of the vine.

Hades -
