It is caused by the pathogens herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). It is predicted by the CDC that over half a million people have genital herpes. It is also predicted that eighty percent of that half million people are not aware that they have the infection. There's no cure for genital herpes. Symptoms will disappear by themselves, but the blisters can come back. You can receive antiviral medication to help control it. The long-term effects of genital herpes are it can cause meningitis and encephalitis. It is also dangerous to have a newborn baby be infected with HSV. It can cause them to have seizures, sick quickly, have high fever, and potentially die. Although it is scary it is easily identifiable in a baby by seeing any rashes on their body or any pus-filled bumps. It can be spread in multiple ways such as through skin-to-skin contact. This includes oral, vaginal, and anal sex. By using the same sex toys as a person with it. You don't have to fear everything you touch though. The virus dies very quickly on things for example a cup or a fork. A way to avoid passing genital herpes on is using a condom while having sex.
